"It was a faulty wire. It was an accident. Dad told us." Ash protested, not believing him.
"Can you just shut up and listen?" Lance growled, rubbing his temples.
Ash did as he was told, even though he owed Lance nothing. His curiosity had gotten the best if him.
"Well, I read an article, save your comments." Lance warned him, but amusement tugged at his eyes. "Dad told us it was an accident, but now I'm not entirely sure."
"What do you mean?" Ash asked, intrigued.
"If you tell anyone I did this, I'll kick your ass." Lance muttered before reaching into his back pocket. He pulled out an old, wrinkled newspaper that he'd obviously stolen from the library.
Ash bit his lip, avoiding his comment about newspapers weren't allowed to be loaned out at the library. He wanted to hear what Lance had to say.
Lance scanned the article over and took a deep, shuddering breath. "I think someone burned it down."
"Who would do that? It's harmless!" Ash rolled his eyes, but he felt shivers run down his spine. Was it really?
"Just read it for yourself." Lance shoved it in his face. Ash gingerly took it from him, careful not to rip it. He read it over quickly, not wanting to get caught with it in his hands. Lance looked at him expectantly, tapping his foot with impatience.
"They believed the security guard did it?" Ash asked, looking up when he's finished.
"Yes, and so do I." Lance announced. "A place like that doesn't just burn to the ground with someone watching it."
"It's possible.." Ash began to explain when Lance cut him off.
"I think that they were ridding of something.. Some evil that had to be destroyed." Lance paced the room, talking to himself more than Ash.
"Dude, that sounds crazy." Ash muttered, but even he began to doubt what he'd been told.
"Whatever happened, it burned for a reason." Lance stopped dead in his tracks, his face paling as he looked up at Ash. "And I don't think it was meant to be re-opened."
