The beginning of September was upon the town of Haddonfield. Michael and Y/n had gotten to know eachother through the small conversations they had from the past couple of weeks.
Today was the first day of school. And Y/n wasn't too happy about that. But atleast she had Michael.

The girl stepped out of her humble home, breathing in the crisp morning air. Her mother scurried after her with worry "Are you sure you don't want me to drive you there? I have time-" "No mom, I'm fine" she deadpanned at her mom's fussiness. "I'll pick you up after school" Y/n didn't decline that offer because she'd probably be exhausted from school. She wandered down the driveway and onto the sidewalk where she saw Michael waiting for her.

"What are you doing here?" Y/n asked skipping up to him. "Waiting for you" she giggled at his stern voice. "And why is that?" "Because-" he stopped and turned away from her "I want to walk with you to school" She laughed and grabbed his hand, leading him with her "Come on then!"

They both walked to school, Y/n did most of the talking. Michael would listen and sometimes respond to her words. He loved listening to her talk, no matter what it was about.

Once they reached the school, the looked at eachother then back at the entrance doors. 'It's okay. everything will be okay' she thought. Y/n pushed open the doors and they were met with wild chattering of kids standing by their lockers. They both made their way down the hallway. Some stopped at whispered at eachother when Y/n passed. Granted she started to feel conscious about herself.

"Hey, the classroom's here" Michael snapped the girl out of her thoughts. She nodded and made her way into the classroom. The desks were lined in rows with each students name plastered on the corner. A woman with curly brown hair and sleepy eyes sat at a giant wooden table decorated with crafts and papers.
Her head lifted when Y/n let out an awkward cough

"Oh deary me, I'm sorry I didn't say hello I was doing some work. You must be the new student. Y/n L/n right?" She nodded her head and muttered a yes. "Wonderful! I'll have you sit-" The schools bell rang and students began flooding into the classroom. Each one seemed to already know where to sit and hang their bags. Y/n stood frozen in place as Michael also made his way to his seat.

The second bell rang and conversations started to get quiet. Some eyes were focused on her as others whispered.
"Who is she?"
"She walked in with Myers, does he know her?"
"How come I've never seen her?"

"Good morning class!" The conversations came to a stop as they greeted the teacher back. "I hope you all had a wonderful summer, My name is Miss Brandy and I'll be your teacher for the year" the woman wrote her name on the chalkboard.

Y/n was still frozen in place. Miss Brandy put a hand on her shoulder and smiled "And we have a new student joining us this year... would you like to introduce yourself sweetie?" She cringed at the pet name. Her eyes wandered the classroom at all the students. Michael was all the way in the back corner looking down at his desk. She felt a lump in her throat and swallowed it.

"My Name is Y/n L/n" As much as the girl pleaded with the universe, she wasn't turning invisible any time soon."Can everybody say hello to Y/n?"
"Hello Y/n" they all exclaimed together. "Now, where would you like to sit Y/n?" Y/ns eyes scanned the room for open seats. Michael had some near his seat. So she pointed to the table on right side of him "next to Michael"

The whole class went deathly silent, and so did Miss Brandy. The woman blinked a few times before nodding "go on then, get yourself settled. And on that note, let's start class!" She said it with a fake happy tone.
Y/n sat down next to Michael and smiled. Though Michael didn't return the favor, he just nodded at her before returning to looking at his desk.

The school day ran smoothly. Y/n stuck around Michael for most of the school day. Despite all the weird looks directed towards her, she never once questioned why they were directed towards her in the first place.

It was the end of the day at the small school. Everyone was antsy to get back home. Only the first day and people were sick of this place. The bell rang and Y/n picked up all of her doodles. Shoving them into her bag quickly then swinging her backpack around her arm.
Michael ,however, was still sitting at his desk looking at what seemed to be photos. The girl peeked curiously over his shoulder. She saw a few blurry photos of cats.

He realised Y/n was looking over his shoulder and threw the pictures in his bag.
"Awww, You never told me you liked cats. That's adorable!" Michael stammered out a few syllables but ended up looking away. "Come on, let's go home" "Yeah" he grabbed her hand, taking the lead this time.

They finally made it outside where all the children were either walking home or getting picked up. Y/n looked at all the cars looking for her mothers. Michael on the other hand, knew his mother was at work, and her dirtbag boyfriend was at the house.
"My mom is here" she pointed at said vehicle. Her mother waved at the both of them.
"Do you... want to drive home with me? Yknow so you don't have to walk alone" she itched the back of her head. He muttered a sure while slightly nodding "I'll ask my mom"

Y/n knocked on the car window, and her mother on que rolled it down. Before her mother could even say anything she interrupted her beginning sentences "Can we drive Michael home?". Her eyebrows raised "A hello would be nice. Who's Michael?" "The boy who lives across the street. My friend??" Y/n harshly whispered hoping Michael wouldn't hear the interaction.

"Ohhh. Well sure... but I'm not sure if his parents are okay with it" Y/n looked back at poor Michael standing there awkwardly. "His parents are at work" she knew damn well that was only half of the truth. Her mother hesitantly "okay'd" her request.

The drive home was a bit weird to say the least. With her mother asking Michael and Y/n a question every so often made the awkward atmosphere lighten a bit. They turned the corner their block and the invisible weight was lifted off the shoulders of Y/n.

After getting out of the car, Michael said a quick thank you to Y/ns mom before heading across the street. "See you tomorrow Michael" she called out. He turned his head halfway and nodded his head "see you later, Y/n"
