—some of y'all are so used to the high school badboy-goodgirl love stories with large doses of rainbows and unicorns and sunshine, where the "big fight" is simply to do with mc1 thinking mc2 is too good for them AND IT SHOWS.
some of y'all have also got real comfy with rosary fluff & smut that you've forgotten the beginning parts of tddup—and that shows as well.
my bio literally says "i write books with ugly truths" — and fyi, that doesn't mean i was going to write "Pepsi is the superior soft drink" (shut up, i will fight you on this)
—All of their flaws which came into play last chapter and will appear in the coming chapters have been built up since the start of tddup. Sorry to pull you out of lala land, but love doesn't magically erase the worst parts of you.
And just because relationships get ugly and fights get brutal, it doesn't mean one doesn't deserve the other. Why would you get into a relationship if you're not willing to see it through the worst times and only want the good 💀 your relationship with yourself has its terrible moments, why would you expect smooth sailing with a whole other human being??Fiction these days are so into "oh just dump his/her sorry a$s and you do you" — but you can't deal with relationships that way. If you want easy, stay alone. It's really that simple. Every little road bump in a relationship has become so easy to regard as a cause for ending things.
Grow tf up or go stick to cutesy teenfic books which just show the process of falling in love and NOT the aftermath of that love. Because my stories will always, always have the ugly bits — i have never shied away and never will from writing them. And as long as I'm not romanticising & glorifying those parts by making sure consequences are faced, then there is zero issue in it.
All my books ask the question "what's the lowest point this relationship dynamic can hit?" and then it hits that spot. AND THEN we see if that kind of ugly makes or breaks the relationship & how determined the mcs are when it comes to fighting for a love they deem worthy.
also— what, you no longer understand Rose? "sHe's aCtInG oUt oF CHarAcTEr" ???
We spent the entire beginning of tddup addressing her acceptance of reality where she thinks she'll never be understood—to the point where it had become her normal. This is further highlighted even in ch55 when Ebru remarks on her looking up European demographics and Rose's instinct is to wait for the mockery. Because Zach understanding her and reading her doesnt erase her norm of having everyone else NOT understand her.
And even taking Zach's perception of her into account—how did you expect a woman (or anyone) who's spent 30years being misunderstood to react to suddenly having someone who can read her like their own name? Do you know how frustrating that might be? To be so used to being able to hide things you dont want someone else to see until youre ready and then waking up one day and realising this one person can do it all? Yeah, it worked great during times she wanted to be understood without being able to put it into words — but every good trait/characteristic can be a negative trait/characteristic under different circumstances. That's writing great internal character conflict 101.
Yes, Zach's intentions in the ch39 fight scene were to protect Rose & Rose's intentions in ch56 fight was to protect herself—but intentions only matter to a certain limit. At the end of the day, words are words and they can be used as weapons all the same. Putting a bullet through someone to save yourself and doing so to save someone you love still results in having blood on your hands, no matter how you try to justify it.
Also, It's a very common human flaw to use another person's shortcoming as a soothing balm over your own ones: "Oh, I didn't get the 95 i was aiming for on this test—but that's alright, i got a 90 while my brother's grades are still in the 70s." "Omg, I can't believe I stuttered during my presentation—but it's fine, that other girl got so nervous she threw up." "Damn, I'm underdressed to this party—oh, but look at her, that's a horrid colour combination for an outfit. At least I'm better off in mine." In whatever big or small way, it's an inherent part of human nature to make yourself feel better about something you perceive as a shortcoming in you BY picking out a flaw in someone else that you perceive is worse than yours. That's what Rose did—except in extreme measures. And didnt we all already know rosary feels everything to the extreme? Or did you blindly wish for that to apply only to love? Yes, i romanticised the idea of feeling emotions limitlessly during the "good" chapters—but this is me ripping off that blindfold and showing you the other side to it. Oh wait, you dont like it anymore??
