Chapter Eighteen
Love and Lies"Hi," Dr. Ward said, walking up to the group that was sitting at the table having drinks.
"Hi," A few people said.
"Hello," A few people said.
"What do you have planned for us today?" Janet asked Dr. Ward.
"Hopefully, nothing about our sex life," Brock replied.
Dr. Ward smiled.
"Today, you guys are going to put your trust to the test and discover the true feelings that you and your partner have towards each other," Dr. Ward said.
"Bitch, this trip is supposed to keep us together, not break us up," Nettie whispered to Trinity, who shook her head at the thought of how messy this group activity could get if done wrong.
"I'm so scared right now," Brooke said.
"That's why we're here," Jessica said, looking a little lost at the idea of the activity.
"We're going to do a lie detector," Dr. Ward said.
"Oh my God, Janay," Cardi said, feeling worried about the relationships that may get ruined today.
"I'm doing this for a reason," Janay said.
"Of everything that could happen, what scares you the most?" Dr. Ward asked the group.
"How many relationships may end after this trip," Amanda answered.
"That's what scares us all," Brock added.
"Exactly," Quiava said.
"Discovering something you didn't know about your partner is heartbreaking," Erica said.
"I feel the same way," Kayla said.
"I made this trip for us to be able to build our relationships on trust, not just with our partners but with our friendships too," Janay said.
"We will build trust. But some of you came looking for answers. You will get them," Dr. Ward said.
"Now I'm uncomfortable," Erica's husband said as Brooke gave him a nasty look.
"Will you lie to me now?" Erica asked her husband.
Erica knew the real problem in their marriage was the lies that her husband often told her. Not many of her friends knew about her marriage troubles, but she always felt they knew more but kept quiet out of respect for her.
"Lie?" Erica's husband replied to her.
Erica nodded but remained quiet.
"So no lies," Inyeop said.
"I trust my husband and everyone here, so I'm not worried," Cardi said.
A man walks over and sets up some equipment at the end of the table.
"This is Lorenzo Digeramero; he's our lie detector specialist," Dr. Ward said. "Each couple will address the main concern they had when coming on this trip," She continued.
"Time to clear up all doubts," Nettie said.
"Who would like to go first?" Dr. Ward asked.
Princess raised her hand. Zhan was surprised that Princess wanted them to go first as he felt they had nothing worth taking a lie detector test.
Princess and Zhan got up and walked over to Lorenzo, and he placed the wires on Zhan while Princess sat next to Lorenzo to see on the screen if Zhan would lie or tell the truth.
"Ready?" Dr. Ward asked Princess.
"Ready," Princess answered.
Lorenzo asked Zhan for his birthday to test the accuracy of the machine, which said he was telling the truth then Princess confirmed that it was, in fact, Zhan's birth date.
"How is your relationship?" Dr. Ward asked Princess and Zhan.
"I think our relationship is fine but seeing her raise her hand for the lie detector test makes me doubt it," Zhan answered.
"I have my doubts about our marriage," Princess said.
"You may ask your question," Dr. Ward told Princess.
"Have you hidden our relationship from your family?" Princess asked Zhan.
Cardi took a sip. of her drink because she knew about this situation when Princess told her that she hadn't met all of Zhan's family. Even when they visited China, she didn't meet all of his siblings, and his parents barely stuck around to get to know her.
"No, I'm proud of being with you, but my family is still upset about my past relationship and preferred that I be with my ex instead of you, which is why they don't come around," Zhan answered honestly.
Princess nodded; she teared up a little bit.
"He is telling the truth," Lorenzo said.
Everyone was shocked by Zhan's answer.
"How can they not like Princess because of an ex," Nettie said.
"What does this ex have that your family won't accept me?" Princess asked Zhan.
(A/N: You guys will learn about Zhan's ex in their spinoff book: The Heir's Wife.)
Quiava handed Princess a napkin to wipe her tears.
"Money," Zhan answered.
"He's telling the truth," Lorenzo said.
"So superficial," Janay said.
"Do you anything else you want to ask him, Princess?" Dr. Ward asked Princess.
Princess shook her head.
"No," Princess answered.
Lorenzo removed the wires off of Zhan. Princess and Zhan switched seats, and Princess was now wired up to the lie detector machine.
"Zhan, it's your turn," Dr. Ward said.
"Have you lied to me about money?" Zhan asked Princess.
Princess nodded.
"Yes," Princess answered.
"She's telling the truth," Lorenzo said.
"Why did you lie about money for?" Zhan asked Princess.
"The Prenup you made me sign before we got married. My father disagreed with it, so he made me lie about how much money had to protect myself," Princess answered.
"She's telling the truth," Lorenzo said.
"I knew, and I'm not mad about it, but you should have told me," Zhan said.
"I'm sorry," Princess said.
Zhan got up and hugged Princess.
"I'm sorry too," Zhan said to Princess.
