"Damn." Soobin mumbled. "That's a big rock."
"Yup. The door should be around here somewhere." Kai said. We would have a lot of rock to look over. It stretched miles across the desert.
"Let's start here and work our way down that way." Yeonjun said pointing to the right.
"Okay sounds good. But let's stick close to each other still." I said linking arms with Beomgyu again.
We walked the distance of the rock wall examining it closely for any signs of a door.
"Kai, where exactly did you see the door?" I asked.
"Well, I didn't really see a door, but this giant rock wall had to be it." He said. I sighed. We didn't even know if this was where the door was.
"Wait wait, I just had a vision." Beomgyu said.
"What was it?" Yeonjun asked, he and Soobin walking over to us.
"It was Kai, climbing. I think we have to climb the wall." I looked up. It wasn't impossible, but it was going to be hard.
"How are we gonna get all the way up there?" Soobin asked.
We were all dreading the climb.
"I guess just hold on and don't look down." I said.
I grabbed a hold on the rock and started pulling myself up. The rocks dug into my hand a little but the pain wasn't too bad. I saw Yeonjun start climbing next to me, Soobin following after him. I looked down. Kai was staring up at the wall protesting while Beomgyu tried to reassure him. This must be Kai's fear- heights.
"Kai!" I shouted. "It's okay! Just watch where you put your feet carefully!"
He looked at Beomgyu who smiled at him before he grabbed onto the wall. Beomgyu started climbing right after him.
"Everyone be really careful! Don't look down Kai!" Yeonjun shouted. We continued climbing, my arms felt like they were on fire. Just a little farther, I thought to myself. I grunted and pulled myself over the ledge, finally at the top. Soobin rolled over the top next to me, and shortly after Yeonjun. I examined my hands that were stinging painfully. They were cut up and bleeding. Soobin and Yeonjun's looked no better.
"Shit," Yeonjun said looking at his hands. I took off my shirt, leaving me in a thin tank top. I ripped the shirt into strips and handed a couple of the strips to Yeonjun and Soobin.
"Here, wrap your hands."
"Thanks."
I set aside a few strips for Beomgyu and Kai, when they got to the top. I looked over the edge, they were so close. Beomgyu followed close behind Kai, making sure he was okay. I saw Kai crying and stopping every few minutes.
"You're so close just a little farther!" Soobin shouted and gave them a thumbs up.
After another 10 minutes Beomgyu reached the top and pushed himself up.
"Oh my god." He said and flopped onto his back.
I looked back over the edge to see Kai, practically at the top. He reached out to a small ledge, just a few inches from the top, when a rock from under his foot slipped.
"Aaaahhh!!!" I caught his arm while he tried desperately to hold onto something.
"It's okay, just hold on!" I grabbed with both arms trying to pull him up, but with no success. My arms were already weak from climbing.
"Help me!" I shouted to Yeonjun and Soobin who had been standing there in shock. They rushed over as Yeonjun grabbed Kai's other hand and Soobin held onto him, pulling him up. We landed hard on the ground trying to catch our breaths. Beomgyu rushed over to Kai who was crying hysterically.
"It's okay, you're okay." He said, holding him close. Yeonjun and Soobin joined the hug and I scooted over wrapping my arms around the cluster. We hugged Kai until he said he couldn't breathe and we pulled away.
"I'm so glad we didn't do this alone." He said the words we were all thinking. This test really was a lot scarier than we had imagined. If you could die here before getting out, then how come not everyone became leaders? Something was seriously wrong, and we had to figure it out.
