✧༺♥༻∞ Beomgyu POV ∞༺♥༻✧
''Beomgyu, what happened to you after the testing?''
I woke up in the room I was put to sleep in at the beginning of the test. I blinked my eyes rapidly, trying to adjust to the bright lights of the room. A woman in a lab coat walked over to me.
''Hello Choi Beomgyu, or should I say number 7,'' She smirked. She adjusted her coat and leaned over me, the smirk slowly dropping into a threatening scowl.
''Did you really think that you could hide things from us? You are nothing but a weak citizen, you have no rights, so don't think you can stop us. We know everything, Choi. And we'll do exactly the same to you as we did to your mother,'' She spat in my face. I grimaced as I processed what she said.
''W-what?'' I tried to move, but I was paralyzed. I saw a flash in my mind, a dark tunnel. Am I going to die?! I started panicking as the woman walked over to me with a needle in hand.
I wasn't sure how much time had passed but I woke up surrounded by leaders and soldiers. A man picked me up like I weighed nothing and threw me to the ground. The wind was knocked out of me and everything hurt. I groaned, my ribs were probably badly bruised. Another picked me up by my collar and held me up.
''No one gets out.'' he smashed me to the ground. Flashes of the future or past, I couldn't tell, were going in and out. tunnels, water... grass... and then light. I was knocked out again. I woke up somewhere dark and damp. The smell was overwhelming and I wanted to get up and move but I couldn't. A mix of pain and what felt like paralyzation. Is this what they did with the defects?
I wasn't even sure how long I was in that tunnel, but it felt like ages. The paralyzation was wearing off, but it hurt to move. I was hungry, thirsty and in pain and I realized that this was what the leaders wanted. For me to die, just like the others they did this to. A little later I heard voices and felt a light shining through the tunnel. I was ready to die, but I knew those voices...
''So that's basically what happened.'' I told them. Suddenly I felt arms wrap around me and pull me closer. It was a soft hug so that he didn't hurt me, but it was nice. I heard Taehyun sniffle and bury his face in my shoulder.
''I'm just glad you're okay,'' He said.
The others came close and joined the hug. They helped me up and explained their plan to me. It was risky, but it could be what needed to happen. I drank some water and Taehyun gave me a few nutrition pills, which made me feel my strength come back. We started to walk through the tunnel, taking another right. The further we went, the worse it smelled. Yeonjun flashed the light in front of us where we saw lumps in the watery tunnel floor. When we got closer we realized... They were bodies. A little farther and there were bones, skeletons of others thrown out here into the tunnel. Soobin gasped and started to hurl behind me. Kai grabbed my arm and Yeonjun and Taehyun started going faster in an attempt to get out of there quicker. I felt sick, some of the skeletons looked like people who tried to get out but never made it. One of these bodies could be mom...
I gulped down the fear as we continued walking. We took a left and soon reached the end of the tunnel.
''Well, this is it. The outside is through this hatch.'' Taehyun said. I held his hand as the realization hit me. The outsiders could be right there.
''We need to be careful, there could be savages or people with crazy powers right outside.'' Yeonjun said.
''There could be anything out there...'' Soobin stared at the hatch.
Kai looked around at us. No one moved or attempted to open the hatch.
''I'll open it.'' He stepped forward to the hatch.
''Be careful!'' Yeonjun said. He joined him at the hatch and the two spun the wheel until we heard a click. Taehyun's grip tightened around my hand as the hatch door swung open. We braced ourselves for everything, but when we looked out there was only the soft glow of sunshine.
I blinked a few times in awe. Outside the hatch were trees. Thousands of tall, green trees, and grass. It was beautiful. I looked over and saw everyone's faces light up.
''Woooww,'' Soobin smiled.
''Oh my gosh! I've never seen this many trees,'' Taehyun said. Yeonjun stepped out and took a deep breath. He looked back with a big smile on his face and waved for us to come out. I stepped out and felt the sun on my face for the first time in a long time. The air smelled better and it just felt fresh and real. It felt free out here.
We walked through the forest smiling and enjoying this forein world. We talked and laughed and explored for the first time in our lives. Kai started climbing a tree and hung upside down.
''Yah! Be careful!'' Yeonjun yelled up at him.
''Come up here!'' Kai shouted back. We all ended up on the tree looking at the world down below. You could see the wall and the provinces from over here.
''Look, there's the society center,'' Taehyun pointed out. It looked different from up here. The society just seemed gray and depressing compared to the sunny nature filled world beyond the wall.
We eventually hopped down and kept walking, hoping that eventually we'd find something related to the outsiders.
We walked for a while when suddenly I felt the others stop. I felt a pain in my head and images flashed in my mind. I couldn't make any of them out, and when I opened my eyes, a woman stood in front of us.
''Mom?''
