Augustus Waters
I woke up with a shock. Beatrice was standing over me. "Augustus?" she asked. I nodded. I filled with pain. I looked at my side and saw a bullet in there. I looked up at Beatrice. "Beatrice," I whispered motioning the bullet. "God. Stay there. I'll get he-" she started and stopped herself. I knew what she was going to say. 'I'll get help.' There is no one to help. Just then, a blonde girl in black clothes came running in. "Marlene," Beatrice whispered. "Hey, Tris. I guess you still died," she said. Beatrice laughed. "Ya. Made it outside the fence I see?" Beatrice asked. "Ya. Caused some terrible. Jeanine followed me till I ran faster and she lost me. I followed your tracks and covered them after. Are Zeke and Lynn alright?" she asked. Beatrice's smile disappeared. "They died," she said. Marlene grew a smile. "So I can find the, then!" she said excitedly. "No you can't. They, they died, again, forever. They were under Jeanine Matthews' control, but, she killed them," she said. Marlene had tears in her eyes. "Oh," she said, disappointed. "Im sorry. But, can you help us?" Beatrice asked pointing to me. "Oh. Crap. Ya I can help," she said walking over to me. "I may be Dauntless born, but I spent time with my mom in the medical room. Shit. People get beaten up fast," she said grabbing tweezers. She kneeled down to me and stuck it in me. I groaned. "Shut up. Some people have worse. Like Tris over there," she said. Beatrice smiled. It was out soon. It hurt, a lot. But it's done. Marlene let out her hand and I took it. She pulled me up. Wow. Dauntless are strong. "Thank you," I said. She smiled with her hands on her hips. "Stiff?" Marlene asked. Stiff. What a weird word. "Uh, no. Marlene, this is Augustus Waters," Beatrice said. "Augustus. Amity," Marlene said with a small smile coming out of the corner of her mouth. Beatrice just smiles, so I guess I shouldn't tell her that I wasn't in the Chicago experiment. But I will lie, and have some fun. "Yes. I'm from Amity. Call me Gus. Here is a magic trick," I said. Beatrice told me Amity are so happy and annoying and magical. I'll be magical. I hold out a cigarette. Marlene's smile faded. "What the heck is that? Shit. It's going to blow up," she said. I smiled. "It's not going to blow up," I said. I glared at Beatrice and she didn't like this. They don't know what cigarettes are. "An Erudite friend gave it to me. It's something fun for people like the Amity. It's just fun. Unless you light it," I said. She grew a smile. "Light it," she said. "Later," I said. I put it behind my back. Then, I held it out. It was gone. "Wha-not impressed. You dropped it behind you," she said. I didn't drop it. "I'm not done," I said. She crossed her arms. I cupped my hands and opened my hands. A flower was there. Her eyes grew. I smiled and stuck it in her hair. She smiled and made a terrible laugh. Beatrice didn't like this. She thought I was flirting. "Wow. Now light it," she said. I rolled my eyes and took the cigarette out of my sleeve, where I hid it. "I don't want to die. Do you?" I asked Marlene. "Well, we are dead. But underworld dead, I don't give a shit about it," she said. I smiled. And went over to a small flame next to the broken glass. I lit it. I get scared. I don't want to try it. "Give it," Marlene said putting out her hand. "Marlene, stop. Don't do thi-" Beatrice started. "No. Tris, thanks, but shut up. This is my life. I died for you once, and I want to die another way, for me," Marlene finished. "Marlene, don't do this," I said. "Wait, your not Amity. Amity can't bare to say Dauntless' real name, and don't give a shit about our safety. Who the heck are you? Shit! Tris! You got us in a trap! Shit! Shit!" Marlene yelled as she grabbed the cigarette out of my hand and put it in her mouth, the right way. She coughed. I looked away. I don't want to watch. "See [cough] im fine," Marlene said. Well, there is a new smoker in town.
