Prologue

"Hehehe! No stop its cold Braden!" I yelled as he splashed me with the recently thawed water of the Lake

"You'll have to make me." He retorted splashing through the icy water as fast as he could trying not to get caught by me.

I ran after him as fast as my short legs could carry me.

"I'm going to get you Braden!" I screamed at him.

After all an eight year old can only run so fast when she's chasing an eleven year old.

"Come and get me!" He said taunting his hands over his ears like Caribou horns, he ran through the field slowing down a bit so I could catch up a little without noticing.

After what seemed like seconds I caught up to him and jumped on his back causing him to topple over on the muddy field, it was a soft landing, but our clothes were definitely ruined!

"Got Ya." I smiled

We rolled over, laying side by side watching the Sun's bright reflection of Orange on the sky slowly turn to darkness.

"Braden?"

"Yeah, Aud?" He asked being sure to use the nickname I'd been assigned since it was too hard to say Audrey

"Why are our parents always screaming at each other ?" I asked staring up at the moon, my eyes taking in every crater, every gleam.

"I don't know. I guess they just don't want to love each other anymore." He said

"Will that happen to us?" I asked

"Audrey Taylor, I will always always love you." Braden said gripping my hand

"I'll always always love you too. I don't want you to leave." I said

"I don't want to leave, they're making me." He said

"I don't want to lose my best friend."

"You will never lose me."

We stayed there for what might have been hours, but I didn't care. The only things that mattered were my best friend, love, hate, and inevitable divorce papers, but we'll get to that part later.
