Last night was opening night for my high school play! I play the lead role of INTJ 1w9 iconJuror #8. For those of you who aren't familiar with the film or the play, Juror 8 (originally portrayed as male in the film by Henry Fonda) is the first member of the jury to vote that the defendant is not guilty, and the strength of their arguments gradually convinces the others to their side. She is very strong-willed, serious and intelligent, and tries to look at situations with both logic and empathy. I've had so much fun playing off and listening to my fellow castmates as well as developing Juror 8's convictions and personal trauma that impact her decisions and behavior in the show. The most challenging, but also fun aspect of playing her was making sure she kept her commitment to reason and compassion even as she is constantly being harassed and bullied by the other members of the jury. I've learned that it's unfortunately very easy for women in charge to be perceived as unlikable, so I've had to work very hard to make sure she comes across as assertive but never overbearing.
