He couldn't help thinking of the muffin, the single candle that she held up to him goading him to make a wish. If he could re-live that moment, he'd have blown the stupid thing out, just to spend a few more minutes with her, he'd cursed himself for the next hour for sending her away. She might be in a relationship with Sinan, but it didn't stop him from wanting to spend as much time with her as he possibly could, or from wanting to confuse her mind in the same way that she had his.

"I'm sure that even Omer Iplicki has a wish that he would want to come true..." Those words, surely she must know how he feels, was she teasing him? Laughing at him? But then the confusion in her eyes was genuine, he'd acted like an ass and she hadn't deserved it.

Zoning out from whatever his Aunt was prattling on about, he watched as Defne's head disappeared below deck. He suddenly found that he was desperate to explain himself, to apologise for his behaviour earlier. She'd done something incredibly sweet, and he'd all but bitten her head off for it. Excusing himself, he followed her down the stairs.

Stopping at the foot of the steps to the bottom deck he watched as she handed Yasemin a wrapped gift.

"Give him this."

Yasemin looked at the wrapped gift. "What are you after?"

"Mr Omer will really love this, don't worry."

Yasemin looked at her skeptically "Look, if there is something behind this..."

Defne shook her head "Don't worry, there isn't."

He watched as Yasemin took the gift, noted without any real surprise, the lack of gratitude shown and on seeing both Yasemin and Derya start to head for the stairs, he quickly ascended them again, his thoughts racing. Why would Defne give Yasemin whatever it was that she'd bought him for his birthday? Was this because of this morning, how he'd treated her? Is that why she looked slightly depressed and wouldn't meet his eyes?

Leaning against the rail on the upper deck, Omer watched as Yasemin and Derya appeared but Defne had apparently failed to follow them. Pushing off of the railing to go back down and confront Defne on her own he stopped when he saw that Sinan was already making his way down the stairs. Following Sinan down, he witnessed his best friend gently holding Defne by the chin, in what appeared to be an intimate moment between two lovers.

Anger and jealousy coursed through him, there was no denying his feelings any longer, he was on his way to being in love with Defne, who for all intents and purposes appeared to be in love with Sinan. Running his hands over his face he tried to control himself, it wouldn't do to lose it in front of all of his friends and family. Yasemin's voice from above deck called him to open his gifts and he was suddenly incredibly keen to not be confronted by Sinan and Defne because he knew that his anger would not be tempered, so he hurriedly made his way back to the upper deck before he could be discovered.

His friends and colleagues started to gather around the table when he appeared, waiting for him to receive their gifts. Omer tried his best to ignore his friend and his assistant who were ascending the steps together, and turned his attention to Yasemin who was handing him Defne's gift. His anger was barely in check and he was hyper aware of Defne at his side.

"Start with mine."

His Aunt, who he knew held no love for Yasemin, interrupted. "You should start with the family."

Yasemin continued to press the gift into Omer's hands. "We're together at the office all day, I'm practically family." Omer glanced at Defne, her expression sullen, eyes red. "Come on Omer, open mine."
