They lay together under thick silk quilts and Qinyang could still not stop shaking. The bath had been very warm and she trembled there as well. Yenay was wrapped around and not even the comfort of her heat next to her woman helped. She hated wars and battles. Each one could rob her and this one in particular, involved all fighters that she loved. Three brothers, two sisters her wife, a son. She would be alone in Cloud Recesses, waiting and praying, burning incense continually and all the time knowing that the odds of bad news were not in her favor. Since the night Yenay had been ripped from her life, losing her again, or anyone who held a place in her heart, was a literally ,unbearable, thought. . And it never got better with time.
Yenay.
Anshi.
Lan Zhan.
Lan Xi Chen.
Wei Ying.
Ming.
Qing.
All in the line of fire. All precious to her.

She tossed back her quilt and threw on a robe. Walking to the stove , she opened the flue and brought the fire to a blast. She felt two arms go around her, hugging her tightly.'

"You are frightened."

Qinyang whirled around and gave her wife a quick shove, and her amber eyes were blazing.

"Oh really? Is that what you think? Yes I am frightened, terrified, actually. But right now I am angry. How many more of my persons are directly involved this time? How many do I stand to lose? When will this ever stop, Yenay?"

"We must protect the ones we love, Qinyang. We did not ask for any of the three of these conflicts."

I KNOW that. I know. But I die a little each time you leave. I don't want somebody coming to the door and telling me that the last person you cried out for was me and I could not be there to hold you and ease your passing."

Yenay stood there passively, copper eyes sad and worried. Her woman had been through so much. Watching her walk this wire was hard. And knowing she would be away from her, once again leaving her without a safety net, was killing Yenay as well.

She took her hand gently and lead her back to bed.

"Qinyang. you are the bravest woman I have ever met. I swear to you that I will return. No, No, look at me."

She placed another hand lightly on her wrist and began to pass energy to her. As her mate began to calm, Yenay spoke from her heart.

"I have spent my life protecting the Lan Sect and Cloud Recesses. But since the very beginning, it has been about you. You are my reason. My reason for everything." The General took a deep breath.

"The happiest years I have lived have been the ones nestled in Yueyang, seeing the sunshine in your eyes as the children played in the orchard. And I have never regretted any battle I have fought to protect you and our loved ones. However, I have decided to protect you in a different sort of way from now on.

This I will promise you...

After we eliminate Meng Shi, I will resign and never go to war again.

I can no longer watch you go through this. You may not know this, but we all agreed years ago, that none of us can compare to you when it comes to bravery, loyalty or selflessness. And that we would protect you from all pain, if possible. All of us made this promise once we were reunited.

So I am content, upon my return, to be you wife, dedicated to guarding you and our family. There will always be another General to step up to protect Cloud Recesses. But there is only one person who can care for you like I can."

Qinyang took stared into those molten eyes and suddenly, swiftly, shoved Yenay back into the bed. She straddled her, pinning her down and pressed her lips hard against the other woman, then abruptly lifted her head.

"My Guardian."

Another Kiss.

"My Soldier."

Another.

"My Goddess."

Once more.

"My Beauty,"

Yenay was breathless. She was back on the floor of the library, dressed in a green traveling kimono and being conquered by the loveliest woman in the world. She let herself melt into total surrender, still not fully believing that the Lan Sect's most stunning person loved her, wanted her. She reached up and began to trace those perfect features with her finger, as if they were something sacred. As always, she was dazzled and her heart beat rapidly as Qinyang lowered her face to possess her again.

Only this time she did not stop. She began a slow and exquisite progression, neglecting nothing. The strong bronzed neck that tapered to a clavicale that stood strong and anchored the magnificent shoulders. Shoulders perfectly suited for battle, or to cradle Qinyang's head at night yet gentle enough to support a tiny child as he picked a peach to nibble. The breasts, surprisingly dainty with nipples tipped in rose that immediately harden with eack carress of her tongue. The rock-hard stomach. Then the rich, dark forest below. She felt Yenay's thighs tremble and part and then Qinyang lost herseff in Nirvana. Soft, sweet and overwhelming. This woman was her everything, her anchor, her savior, and she was safer here than any fortress or enclave in the sunny mists of home .Her Yenay was heaven on earth.

Yenay was lost. Her Soldier's Woman was relentless, bringing her to the peak and then starting all over again. She was helpless against her and she could not stop and did not want to. Finally, however, she became drained and depleted. Qinyang sensed surrender and reluctantly slowed, then halted, still looming above and watching the exhausted woman below her.

"I will bring some wine, my love. You will need some reviving. I plan to demand terms when you gather some strength." She grinned as she watched a slow smile cross her wife's beautiful face.

Yenay would return in triumph and Qinyang would be waiting to welcome her home.
