Its the first day of senior year in a new school. I lay in my bed as I try to decide whether or not to be excited for my first day of high school at a brand new school. New school, fresh start. I hop out of bed and run to the closet. OK, what do wear today. Oh, how 'bout this cute pink crop top, with the heart on it, and jeans? Yeah, that'll make an impression, I'm sure. I walk down the stairs, skipping the bottom two, and go into the kitchen.

"Hey mom! How are you this morning?" I ask as I sit down.

"Good sweetie, I've made you some-   oh, well I see you already found the pancakes I made for you." She laughs, opening the cupboard and getting a glass. "Are you excited for your first day of school?"

"Definitely!" I squeal, excited. I stuff another piece of pancake in my mouth. "I wonder how many friends I'm gonna make on the first day. I hope it's a lot."

"I hope so too. After you finish your pancakes don't forget-"

"To brush my teeth, I know mom." I get up and put my empty plate in the sink. "I'll head upstairs and brush my teeth, then we can go."

"Woah, Woah, Woah. Let me at least drink my coffee first!" She laughs again. "I guess I can always take it with, seeing how excited you seem."

"Thanks mom!" I run up the stairs and go into the bathroom to brush my teeth. I stand at the sink brushing for two minutes, rinse, and run back down the stairs, skipping the bottom two.

"OK, mom, I'm ready!" I say, bouncing up and down excitedly.

"Little girl, you are very lucky that I just finished my coffee, because that means we can leave." She opens the door. "Come on, you get shotgun."

I run outside and get in the car. Mom pulls out and heads for the school. We get there and I open the door.

"Bye mom! Love you much!" I get out and hear her reply before shutting the door.

I turn around and head inside the school building, suddenly apprehensive as to whether or not people will like me. First day jitters, it's nothing. Introduce yourself to someone and maybe they will talk to you. I walk up to a girl with long blond hair and stick out my hand.

"Hi, I'm Marie, what's your name?" We shake hands quickly.

"I'm Julie, it's nice to meet you. Are you a senior?" She replies nervously.

"Yep! Are you?" I ask as we walk to the attendance window to get our schedules.

"Yeah, and I'm nervous about being left out." She grabs her schedule. "Hey, how about we stick together? We can be buddies!"

"Sure!" I grab my schedule. "Let's compare classes first. What do you have first period?"

"Chemistry, and I have Calculus second period." We sit down next to each other.

"Wait, what? I have those exact same classes!" This is crazy, I wonder if all our periods are the same! "Do you have English IIII third, Theater Arts fourth, World History Fifth, and do you have a sixth period?"

"OMG! I have all of those too! Also, yes I have a sixth period. It's girls weight training."

"NOOOOOO! My sixth period is study hall. Well I guess we got lucky with what we got." The bell rings and we get up and head up the stairs. "Do you like hugs?"

"Most definitely! Are you unreasonably obsessed with holding people's hands?" She asks as we reach the last flight of stairs.

"Not really, but I had a friend like that back in my old school, so I'm used to it."  We walk into Chemistry and sit at a lab table next to each other.

"So you don't mind if I hold your hand? I do it for comfort when I'm nervous." She picks up one of the class syllabi and starts reading it.

"Not really." I blush "You can if you want. I am just so excited to get to the next class."

She grabs my hand and threads her fingers through mine. "Thanks, it means a lot to me."

We go through the day, sitting next to each other in every class and chatting when we can.

"Well, I guess this is it, sixth period. I guess this is where we part ways." I hug her and start to walk away.

"Wait! How about we meet after school? I live near you remember? I can text my mom that I'm going to walk home and I can go with you in your car and walk from your house."

"Okay! I'll see you after school!" I walk to study hall and go in, sitting down in the back. A few minutes later, a boy walks in and sits next to me.

"Hi, I'm Thomas, but you can call me Tom. What's your name?"

I look over in surprise to his question. "I'm Marie, what grade are you in?"

"I'm a  junior, I just transferred from Idaho State High, and you?" He asks, holding out his hand for a shake.

"I-" I pause, nervous. "I'm a senior."

"Oh, okay." He pulls his hand back and turns away from me, starting to gather his stuff up to move.

"Wait, you can stay." I laugh. "I won't bite."

He turns back slowly. "You won't? Well I will!" He jumps up and starts tickling me, making me fall out of my chair in laughter.

"Stop! Stop! Your gonna make me cry!" I barely get out, still laughing.

He stops and gets back in his chair. I stop laughing and sit back down just as class starts. The teacher takes half of class to explain what we will be doing, and the whole time we are shooting each other playful looks. The teacher finally sits down and we can talk again.

"It's almost time to go, can I walk you out after?" He says, hesitantly.

Do I want to let him walk me out? I'm meeting Julie after all... "Sure! Though I'm meeting up with one of my friends. Is that okay?"

"Yep!" The bell rings and we get up. "Come on let's go."

We leave the class and walk down the main hall together. So many girls are holding hands, same with the guys, and there are a few guy and girl couples... Are all these people dating each other? No, it's impossible. A whole school full of dating children. We reach the front entrance where we meet up with Julia.

"Okay, Tom, this is where we part ways." He starts running to catch the bus. "Bye! See you tomorrow!"

"Who was that?" Julie asks as we start to head to the car.

"Just a guy in my study hall. How was your last period?" I stop at the crosswalk.

"Good, though there were so many girls and guys kissing in the locker rooms. EEEUCH!" The crossing guard stops the traffic and we cross.

"Here's my mom's car. We can get in the back." I open the door, Julie climbing in soon after. "Hi mom! Meet my new friend Julie, she lives near us so I offered her a ride home."

"That's nice of you. Hi Julie, I hope we see more of you." My mom replies as we pull out.

We drive home and park in the driveway.  Julie gets out first and I get out after, shutting the door behind me.

"Hey, Julie, I'll see you tomorrow morning, same place as before?"

"Yep!" She turns and starts walking away after giving me a hug. "See you tomorrow!"

I go inside, eat dinner, and get in bed falling asleep quickly.
