30 days of love

Junior Lake High -- Day 8

I wake up at 8:00. Shoot! I'm late for school! I hop out of bed quickly and look through my closet. Hmmm, what to wear today. How 'bout a white sweater and black exercise tights?  I grab the outfit and throw it on, grabbing a piece of toast on my way out the door.

"Bye mom! Have a good day at work!" I open the interior garage door.

"Alright, have a good day at school honey." She turns to me. "Don't be too late!"

I run out to my  bike and open the big garage door. I hop on my bike and quickly bike to school. I get there two minutes before the bell. I walk into the couch room.

"Julie? Are you in here?"

"Yeah. Are you ready to go to the Headmaster's office today?" She gets up from the couch and hugs me, also giving me a little peck.

"Sure! Anyth-" BRIIIIIIINNNNGGGG!!!

"Well I guess that's the bell." She turns and grabs my hand walking out of the room with me. "Come on, let's go to class and ask if we can go to the headmasters office."

We go to class quickly, excited to go to the office. 

"Mrs. Burg, can Julie and I go to the headmaster's office?"

"Sure!" The teacher pauses. "Just be back soon."

We walk out and walk down the hallway, hand in hand. After a minute of walking we stop in front of the headmasters office and Julie hugs me, sending a jolt of electricity up my spine.

"Alright, let's go in" Julie pulls me toward the door.

"Okay..." I hesitantly open the door and we walk into the office. "Hi, we are here to see the headmaster about our relationship."

"Alright, what are your names?" The attendant turns to her computer.

"Julie and Marie." I pause nervous. "Our teacher has said to hurry."

"No problem, just sit over there and the headmaster will be right with you." 

We walk over to the chairs and sit down. We then wait for a bit before our names are called again.

"The headmaster will see you now."

"Okie, thanks!" I get up and grab Julie's hand. We walk into the headmasters office, and sit down in front of his desk.

"So" He says gruffly "You two want to register as a couple to stay in the school?"

"Yes, please." Julie tugs on my arm to let her speak.

"Could you hurry?" She pauses. "We would like to get back to class quickly."

"Alright, you both are registered as a couple. Have a nice day!"

"Thank you!" I pull Julie up out of her chair and we walk out. We get back to class and don't get another chance to talk until second period.

"Hey Julie, wanna work on the project the teacher has assigned together?" I hold up the rubric for her to see.

"Sorry, no, I already have a partner." She puts her arm around another girl. "Meet Lexie."

"Hey Lexie." I pause nervous. "Okay, well I'm going to go find a partner." I walk to the other side of the room and sit in the corner desk away from everyone.

What was that? Julie always wants to work with me! The next two periods go on like that until 4th period, theater arts. I walk into the class to find that we have all been assigned partners to do a dance session. Julie is my assigned partner? YES! Now I can finally ask her why she's been so distant since this morning. Julie comes in and looks at the chart. She walks over to me.

"Well, looks like we are partners." She pauses. "Annoyingly"

"What's wrong with-"

"Alright class, today we are going to learn the waltz, as per fits the theme of our upcoming play." The teacher takes out a random student. "What you want to do is put a hand on their back and hold hands in the air, like this."

"Alright Julie, lets try it. I grab one of her hands and put a hand on her back, taking a breath at the same time. Huh, flowers and mangos. A good combination of perfumes. We start dancing, but two minutes into it, Julie suddenly runs out of the room. 

"Marie, could you go get her?" The teacher pauses. "We need to have our students here."

"Sure!" This is my chance to ask her why she's been avoiding me. I run out of the room and see her sitting on a bench. She gets up and runs down the stairs to the cafeteria, almost to the back entrance. I follow her and she runs all the way into the parking lot's street. "Julie! Why are you running from me?!"

"Because I don't want to be with you anymore." She pauses. "I was only with you so that I could stay in the school."

"But Julie..." I start sniffling, broken. "We promised that we would never break each other's hearts."

"I made that to win you over. It means nothing." She turns and starts walking into the street, when I notice a car coming toward her full speed, about to hit her. I run at her and push her out of the way just before the car hits her, making it hit me. 

I wake up in the back of an ambulance, without a scratch on me. They still send me home for the day to get some rest, but I stay up and text Tom.

Tom, are you there?

Yeah, what do you need? Are you okay?

I'm fine, surprisingly. Omg why am I so tired all of a sudden.

Sleep until tomorrow okay? I'll see you in study hall.

Okay

I put my phone down next to my bed, suddenly tired. I lay down and fall asleep quickly.

She's conscious, get her mother, quickly. She might fall back away at any moment.

*A few seconds later* 

Marie? Are you here with me my sweet girl?  Julie is here too.

Omg Marie I'm so sorry. I never meant to get you hurt. Please wake up.

A few seconds later everything goes silent as l drift into a deep sleep.
