I wake up in the morning, afraid of what people say to me. I limp to my closet and look in, trying to find a decent outfit. Hmmm what do I have to wear? I search around a bit before finally finding a plain purple dress. Yeah, that shouldn't attract too much attention I put it on and hop down the stairs, trying to balance on the crutches.
"Hey mom, whats up? You look a bit upset." I walk over and hug her.
"I'm fine." She pauses. "I've just been thinking about things."
"Oh mom, I'll be okay." I stop. Should I tell her that I saw Tom last night? "Hey, I just wanted to tell you..." I pause.
"What? Did something happen?" She looks at me, concerned."No, but I saw Tom last night. I can't explain how, but I did." I shuffle my feet, nervously. Why isn't she saying anything!?!
"Oh honey, I couldn't imagine that you did. You were probably just dreaming." She hugs me. "Now go eat breakfast and we will go, we are late so there is no time to brush teeth."
I open the cabinet and get out a bowl and cereal. I pour myself a bowl and eat it quickly.
"Alright, I'm ready to go mom!" I get up and put my bowl in the sink.
"Okay, get in the car and we can head to school." She grabs her coffee and starts to pour it into a to go cup.
I head outside and get in the car, pulling out my phone.
Hey, see you at school? Also, I'm assuming Tom won't be there.
Yep! And no, he won't.
That's disappointing.
I'm sorry Marie. I know how much you liked him.
Yeah...
Ok... Well... see you at school.
I put my phone away only to find that my mom had already driven me to school. I get out of the car and head in, getting many glances at my crutches and stitches. I walk into the couch room only to find it empty. I sit down on the couch and wait. Two minutes later, Julie sits down next to me and hugs me.
"Hey." She pauses. "Are you okay today?"
"Yeah, I just... I'm nervous about today." I pause and hug her. "Can you stay with me today?"
"Most definitely." She gets up, pulling me me up too. She then hands me my crutches. "First class?"
"Yep!"
As soon as I get my crutches in place, the bell rings. We head to first period together. We do our assignment and have a few minutes to spare. While we wait, we talk. Once it does we get up, go to our next class together, and sit in the back. The day goes on and finally, it is last period once again.
"Well, I guess I'll see you after school?" I laugh. "I thank you for helping me. I hope I can get through this next class without thinking about Tom"
She giggles. "I hope so too."
I go into the classroom and sit in the back, waiting for class to start. Soon, class starts and the time passes by quickly, all the while I was thinking about Tom.
I meet Julie at the front of the school, where my mom picks me up and then we go to my house. Once at my house, Julie leaves and walks home, in the opposite direction. I go inside, say hi to mom, eat dinner, take a shower, and go to bed.
