Chapter 11
The next week was possibly torture for Harry. It was full of loathing himself for liking his former enemy, Draco being nice (Harry loved that, which was the problem), and Hermione saying "I told you so" every two seconds. Harry couldn't get away from himself.
The only place he knew to go to, to get away from everyone, was the astronomy tower. It wasn't filled with necessarily good memories, but instead with peace from the night sky. And so, this was the place for that next week that Harry would go to sit and think and learn of himself still. But, of course, since this is Harry Potter we're talking about, something unexpected must always be expected.
It was a Saturday night when he found someone else up in his spot, sitting on the ledge of the tower. The one and only Draco Malfoy was sitting where he always sits, staring at the same stars he always counts. All Harry could do was walk over and sit next to him. Draco didn't look over to see the boy next to him. He didn't get up and leave either. He just stayed, looking at the stars.
"Look at that one, right there." The blonde finally says, breaking the silence between the two. "That's Draco." Harry looked to where the boy's pale hand was pointing, to see a string of stars in almost a "U" shape.
"It's pretty. What's- er... what's it supposed to be?"
Draco turned and looked at Harry, an incredulous smirk playing on his lips.
"It's a Dragon. If you paid any attention in Latin, you would know that's what it means." Harry's eyebrows furrow and he looks back up at the sky. How the fuck is that supposed to be a dragon?
"Oh, uhm, yeah I uh- I see it now." He awkwardly laughs.
"No you don't."
"No I don't." He sighs and Draco laughs, still looking at him. His smile faded, boiling down to a fond face. Harry looked over his shoulder at Draco and raised an eyebrow at him, enjoying the moment while it lasted. The Slytherin coughed and looked down at his legs.
"So uhm, what are you doing up here?" He asked.
"Oh, I come here a lot, actually. Every night. It's a-"
"Calm place to escape?" Draco asked, finishing Harry's sentence.
"Yeah- yeah. Nice way of uhm, putting that. Brilliant, really." He chuckled to himself, not noticing the other boy's lingering eyes on him.
"Look, I- uhm, well I know I've said this before but I really do feel terrible about the way that I treated you; your friends, as well, they didn't deserve that either. I was just a really shit person and I'm, well I'm trying. Really hard." Harry looked up at Draco as he said this, feeling bad for the boy as he did.
"I took part in it as well-"
"No." Draco cut him off. "You were just defending yourself. I was rude from the start and you didn't deserve any of the shit you got."
Neither of them had anything to say at this. So they sat. Staring into each other's eyes, laying in the grass, underneath the stars.
"Harry-"
"Draco-"
They both started at the same time, chuckling together.
"Go ahead- you first." Harry smiled, nodding to the blonde boy.
"Okay, look. I don't know what you're going to say to this but honestly it's been torturing me for the past- well forever and I've only just recently realized what it really is but now that we're getting to know each other, it's become harder to ignore."
Harry laughed and Draco's rambling, making him blush.
"What is it- do it smell bad?" Harry drawled jokingly.
"No- no. You- you smell quite pleasant."
"Then what is it? You're never this nervous talking to people."
"I like you.: Draco stated. A wave of silence slinked through the air between them. Harry's mouth fell agape, as he was unsure what to say. Instead, he just laughed.
"That's a good one." He giggled.
"No- no Harry listen to me! I do. I like you more than the sun likes the moon. Or- the moon likes the Earth. Wait. Okay- I don't know what the saying is but it's something like that. The point is- I like you. A lot. Too much, actually."
Another long silence fell between them, neither knowing how to respond.
"Draco I-"
"Shit, I'm sorry. I just assumed that maybe-"
"Draco listen-"
"No, no it's fine. I get it, you don't like me back, it's really ok." Draco rambled,
"Draco!"
"Harry! I'm telling you it's-" Before he could finish that sentence, Harry captured Draco's mouth with his. Slowly, they moved their lips together. It shouldn't have worked. Their lips moved around each other, their tongues brushed their lips, but never touched, their teeth clashed. It shouldn't have worked. But it did. It was perfect.
"So, is that an 'I'm so sorry yes of course I like you back please shower me with cuddles and kisses'?" Draco asked, laughing at Harry's eagerness to kiss again.
"No, it was a 'shut the fuck up before i touch your hair'." He smiled. Draco just shook his head and kissed him again. "But yes, please shower me in kisses. That would be absolutely brilliant."
