As my eyes slowly opened, I found Ian crouched beside the bed watching me intently. I blinked multiple times trying to clear up my vision. Despite him being aware that I was now fully awake, it didn't faze him. He stayed rooted in his spot and watched me.

"I just wanted to make sure you got enough sleep." He said as he proceeded to run a hand through my hair.

Feeling self conscious, I lifted the duvet up to my face. Immediately he pulled it away. "Don't do that with me."

"Do what?" I took a peek at him.

"Hide." He licked his lower lip as he peered down at me. "You can hide from everyone else but not me."

In that exact moment I felt chills run down my body. It might have been the way his blue eyes shimmered in the morning light or how his muscles were visible through his white T-shirt. I couldn't put a finger on what it was but I was going crazy.

We both went silent and our eyes did all the talking for us. Whatever I was feeling, it was evident he was feeling it too and I couldn't hold it back any  longer. Slowly I found myself leaning in and when my lips were mere inches away from his the sound of a smoke detector went off and I put an immediate halt on my actions.

"Shit." Ian cursed and jumped out of bed. "I forgot I had cookies in the oven."

Flustered I returned back to my spot under the blankets. I ran a finger along my bottom lip. It hit me then. I was about to kiss Ian! I had been saved by a smoke detector this time but what about the next time? I had to leave his house or I would give in eventually.

The smell of burnt cookies filled the room and I poked my head out to see where it was coming from.

Ian stood in front of me with a crooked smile and a tray of burnt cookies in his hands.

"Are chocolate chip cookies still your favourite?" He offered.

I couldn't hold it off. I burst out into fits of laughter and had to hold my stomach because it hurt from all the violent laughing I was doing. Ian joined in eventually and soon our violent laughter's filled the room.

Ian waited patiently as I bit into a cookie. His eyes looked hopeful as he waited for my honest review of his cookies. I forced myself to swallow it then smiled up at him.

"Mmm. So good, I think i'll have another." I lied and he jumped up in joy.

I got up from the bed and took the tray from him. "On second thought, I don't want to ruin my appetite so I'll have the rest later."

His eyes followed every movement of mine. Slowly they trailed a path from my feet all the way up  to my face. My hands shook as I tightly held on to the tray. Lately his gaze had been making me nervous and I didn't like it.

"Fuck. I love you." He said under his breath.

I brushed some hair over my shoulder, pretending not to hear him. When I finally found my balance and decided to go downstairs he overtook me and stood between me and the door.

In a swift movement he locked the door behind him and tossed my tray to the floor. Before I could process anything he closed the space between us, pulled me in by the throat and I became weightless.

His lips slammed against mine. It felt like heaven but it also felt like I was dying. My mind screamed no yet my body screamed I need you to stay right here.

Thankfully my mind eventually overruled my body. Tears stung my eyes when I realized what I had just done. I pushed Ian off and without looking back ran downstairs and out of the house.

He tried to run after me but I was long gone. When I was sure he wasn't following me anymore I grabbed my phone out of my back pocket and scrolled through the contact list. I was going to call Kyson but I remembered he usually spent his weekends at his uncle's lake house and there was barely any cell service there. I couldn't call my parents either because they lived over an hour away.

I was out of options and desperate. The only other person I could call and knew would drop everything to come give me a ride home was Nathan.

My ex-boyfriend.
