Chapter Twenty-Seven
It wasn’t long before Promise finally gave up on her pacing. The woman looked worn, sweat making her flyaway hairs stick to her forehead. Promise was anxious, not even being sane enough to sit still.
I knew better by now not to ask any questions, for her vague answers only arose more questions. And it was by now that I realized that the labyrinth of that woman’s mind shall forever remain a mystery to me. Because, I didn’t have the patience to solve the impossible.
And, maybe that’s why he left. My father, I mean. Because she was crazy.
Although, if put into perspective, he was more to blame for my abandonment than my mother was liable. For, he had left us, first. His fifteen-year-old girlfriend and their unborn child.
But, she was the one that ruined everything; not him. Whereas my mother was the epitome of evil, my father had done his good deed and stayed out of my life.
I guess Promise never got the memo?
He may of left, but at least he didn’t keep showing up unannounced, and unwanted.
Promise smirked, rolling her head in my direction. “You look like him, you know. More so him than me.” And, I almost smiled. Because that was such a mother-like thing to say. Talking to her daughter about the likelihood of her and her father. I almost smiled, that was, until she opened her mouth, again. “It’s sickening.”

“No, wait!” I begged, reaching out to grab Sakura’s hand. “Please.” This wasn’t what I expected. They came. But, they weren’t helping.
Promise’s hand clasped onto the back of my neck. “I’m sorry my daughter has been such a bother. I never took her as a liar, but then again, I never suspected she’d run away from home, either.” She sighed, for effect. “I guess I’m just a bit of an inadequate mother.”
Sakura waved a dismissive hand. “Don’t worry about it. I’m sure Bliss meant no harm by it. She’s just a kid, you know?”
My heart sunk- deep into my stomach, where the acid welcomed it with arms wide open, only to dissolve it into the nothing that was me. That was the power of words. And, coming from Sakura, the put-down was a bit more harsh than if it would have come from a certain blonde.
Tear filled eyes flitted to where Naruto awkwardly stood, pleading. But, with his head bent low, he wouldn’t even look at me. And, without his acknowledgement, nor Sakura’s understanding, I had given up.
Not on just the hope of being saved, but on their friendships.
“Naruto?” I tried, just barely whispering. I could almost feel Promise’s satisfaction as Naruto just shook his head, grabbing a hold or Sakura. The pinkette gave me one last sad, ’I-can’t-believe-you’ glance before letting Naruto pull her away.
It was moments before anything else was said.
We had both watched the shinobi walk proudly back to their village. Neither looking back.
When I had wrote that note to Sakura, I had in hopes of being saved. Both, both friends abandoning me was never something I would have anticipated. Not even in my worst nightmares.
They’re not your friends, Bliss. You don’t have friends.
I had Promise.
Did you even have Deidara, anymore?
He left without saying goodbye. Which was nothing new. But, I told him she was taking me. He knew how scared I was. So, where was Teen Dream, now?
When Promise knew for certain that they were gone- as if to preserve her picture perfect mother image- that’s when the rage started. When they were gone.
I didn’t hear it, at first. I felt it. Promise’s grasp threaded into my hair, roughly pulling at the strands so that I stood closer to her than I really wanted to. To where I could feel her breathing down my neck.
I whimpered.
“You insolent little bitch. Do you know what you could have cost me? Do you know what this could-”
“Put her down, Promise.”
My eyes found the source of the deep, and definite matured voice. And, for the second time that day, my heart broke.
As did my voice.
“D-Dei?”
