Chapter 6

The morning lulls you awake, a cold breeze entering your teepee. Winter arrived around three months ago, and you have stagnated slightly. You had finished work on the gun as quickly as you could, fearful of being attacked. Luckily for you, there were no signs of any human movement around you, but your plans to use the gun to hunt were completely derailed as you no longer had access to the nitric acid. So instead of using guns to hunt, you made a stockpile of bullets that you made from the small amount of gunpowder you had. Just in case you needed them.
The most you had done in those months was put on more clothes, and kill one or two more deer. Thankfully, you had a massive amount of food stored up for the winter, and the air is already showing signs of spring arriving. You had recently begun contemplating reviving some people to help you, but after trying to pour nitric acid on some petrified swallows, you were only left confused. You are sure that the nitric acid was what revived people, it revived you right? Something doesn't add up. The next thing to do would be to try every possible combination. Maybe it was simply having a constant stream of nitric acid, and if you got something more potent… ah Hell. You know ethanol mixed with nitric acid would make an industrial strength corrosive, but you need grapes for that, and they haven't come back in season yet.
You have since decided to simply focus on your own survival for the moment. Although, it is definitely in the cards to revive people, as you need more labor and protection. More minds would help immensely too, but that's a bit harder to gauge than muscle. The second thing is that, if you end up reviving a sex crazed maniac- you are done for. You never really talked to anyone before petrification, and now- you regret that even more than ever. You don't know who you can trust. Unfortunately, you are not a leader, and know nobody trustworthy enough to be such a thing. If you revive someone, they may be thankful for a bit, but then may take advantage of you. That terrifies you.
Sighing, you standing up, deciding to get up for the day. It's almost been a year of being free of stone. And your birthday is approaching. You never even thought about it last year, as you were so busy. Now, you have so much free time, you are unsure what to do with it! You mostly draw with the extra time- that or do small odd jobs. Afew days even allowed you to sleep in or take a nice nap! You must say, it is quite nice to live like this, but at the same time- you can't make a single mistake else you risk death.
You have decided to take a trip in a direction you haven't gone before. bringing your map with you, you decide to take a make-shift bike you made about a month ago. This was made in a similar way as the cart, but with treads made out of flexible bamboo. Hopping on, you ride in style through the forest, whizzing past trees, almost flying off every time you hit a rock or branch that is just barely too big.
By the time you rode to the hot springs, only about four hours had passed, thus you breze by, deciding to ride toward another high point in the terrain. Once you hit what felt like the top of the hill, you climbed up a tree, noting down all of the terrain you saw. Although, near the ocean, you saw strange colors that did not match the rest of the terrain. Was this the village of the tsukasa empire? No, it would take like- 7 hours just to run here from the cave, why would anyone… Maybe there is a branch village that he controls? You're Not even sure one hundred percent that it is, in fact, a village.
Landing on the ground from the treetop, you re- mount your bike, pedaling toward a cliff that appears to be close to the area. After another 47 minutes, 42 seconds, you reach the cliff, already able to see that it is actually a village. Ok- fall back, and decide what to do! Fall back! Fall back! You don't want to get caught near this beehive of humans! You quickly turn your bike around and petal like hell, before something explodes next to you! The loud boom alarms you as your ears begin to ring, and you get knocked off your bike- fuck! You tumble to the ground disoriented, and adrenaline begins to surge through you. Not again! You should not have gone near the village! Are you stupid!??!? Of course they would set booby traps! Idiot! IDIOT! You push yourself off the ground, the world swirling around you before refocusing. You look to the ground trying to assess where there might be any more traps, then you run to a tree, climbing it as fast as you can and trying to hide in the densest part of it.
After afew moments, you calm your beating heart and breathing, and a few moments later, a group of people rush to the scene. You can't make out all the details as you can't see through the dense leaves, but there are three people, and they are certainly formidable. You wouldn't be able to take them if you tried. Something shiny and silver catches your eye, and you note that they are at the level of iron. In contrast, tsukasa was not strange enough, as the guards had stone weapons. The people that would need the most powerful weapons the most. This is definitely not under the tsukasa empire, but that doesn't mean they are any less dangerous.
You hold your breath and try not to move so much as a millimeter. Another two people arrive at the scene, and you recognise their voices. One of them was gen- wh- maybe this is under the tsukasa empire? The second you couldn't place.
“They couldn't have gone far, I see scuffs in the dirt, they fell and there are no footprints leading away on the ground. They are probably in the trees.” a feminine voice states.
Shit! Even a lack of footprints can lead them right to you! Now you simply have to hope and pray or whatever that they don't see you! That is all you can do! If you move, they will certainly catch sight of you. Humans are predators afterall, and can detect movement very easily. And not to mention, the woman who has vision good enough to note whether there's footprints or not… ok- you are screwed!
Or are you? You have one last resort if they decide to attack you. You are glad you brought it. You never wanted to hurt anyone, but when fighting for one's life- you have to exhaust every option. “I see them! They are in the trees! Get ready!” the same voice demands- “wait.” you hear from gen.
“This is not handiwork from anyone in tsukasa’s empire.” gen states.
Woah woah woah woah woah… whu? What? Shouldnt- unless, this really isn't under tsukasa…? Maybe he is a spy? Of course gen would be a spy- the famous mentalist? Who else? It's so obvious!
“Are you that girl from the cave?” gen questions.
Mother fucker! Just lemme gooooo!
“You know her?” the woman asked.
“The girl who isn't on either side? The third to revive on her own? How exhilarating.” you know that voice! Where? W- no… no no! It can't be!
“What the fuck? What is this some kind of convoluted storybook? How are you alive!?!?!? Crazy idealist said you were dead! What the fuck is going on!??!?” you scream down, brain hurting, but heart glad nobody died.
“Kukuku, well I'm standing here alive aren't- wait how do you know who I am?” Senku questions.
You don't know if you should jump down now or not… it would make it much easier to talk face to face, especially since if he recognises you, that might save a few sentences- although, he probably wouldn't, afterall, you barely interacted with him.
“Uh- I'm going to jump down now, it would be easier to talk face to face. Just don't try anything, because I will not hesitate to protect myself.” you yell down, landing in front of them.
You look around, noting a blonde woman with turquoise eyes. She eyes you suspiciously, knives at ready. The next is a blonde male who is eyeing you up and down, grinning like a hungry dog. You can't help but give him a disgusted look. The last is a serious looking brunette male, with glasses. Gen looks at you, pleased as if he had found a rare card to show off, lastly- senku regards you with nothing more than a raised eyebrow.
“Are you done assessing everyone?” he asks.
“Eh- yeah- so uh, I was in your chemistry class, one of the peo-” you start.
“Oh- you were the girl who never participated! Of course! How could I forget the woman who attracted all those stalkers to my experiment room…” Senku groaned in the last part.
“Ah- sorry about that, if I'd known it bothered you I woul-” you start before the senku interrupts.
“Don't apologise, it's a waste of time, not to mention, it happened 3700 years ago. Oh, do you know what the date is?” Senku questions.
You nod, “ december 21, 5739. It is currently 3:36 pm.” you state. Gen looks at you as if you had said something utterly shocking. And the others gave various surprised faces. Did nobody else count? Seriously?
Senku grins, “did you count?” he asks.
You nod, “yeah, although, I thought I was off by a lot, I guess I was just lucky haha”
Senku scoffs, “luck has absolutely nothing to do with it. Let me guess, you are one of those people that blames whether or not a plan works on luck.” he huffs, turning away from you shaking his head.
“Er- well, I-” you stumble.
“Listen, everything happens for a quantifiable reason as a result of stimuli. Whether or not a plan fails, or succeeds- that's ten billion percent on you.”
You look at him in wonder, shocked at his comment. Is this encouragement, or does he just not like the thought of luck being a factor? Likely the latter.
The group seems to wonder the same thing, all except for Gen, who huffs and shakes his head with a smile.
“Uhm… th-thanks?” you question, senku only raising an eyebrow over his shoulder at you.
“For what?” he asks.
“Nuh… nevermind…” you sigh.
“Alright, I've made up my mind.” senku declares.
What? On what?
“You are coming with us. Welcome to the kingdom of science.” he chuckles, turning to you, grinning.
“HEEH???” you sound, along with the three armed villagers.
Gen seems very unsurprised by this, which leads you to the conclusion that he made the decision much earlier… if you had known senku well at all, maybe you would have predicted this… in fact, you wonder if he may have known who you were from the beginning due to gen possibly describing you? No- that's too far of a jump.
“Can… Can I decline?” you ask, already sure the answer was no.
“If you want, but, I'm sure you won't. After all, you are a woman of science, just like myself aren't you? You would be pleased to know the kingdom of science has many scientific tools just waiting to be used. Kukukuuu” senku chuckles, a dark look falling on him.
The dark look that senku put on should have made you uncomfortable, but you've seen it before, he was a scheming man, one of the most obvious first impressions he made upon you as you watched the experiments from the sidelines. The next obvious being the last he made, before getting petrified. He was a caring man, who would do everything he could to make sure everyone would be ok. You remember that he made sure everyone was okay after the explosion that caused everyone to evacuate class.
Then again, just because one makes the impression of being kind, doesn't mean they are. To go even further, just because someone is kind, doesn't mean you should stay around that person. No- you don't have some edgy backstory, you just don't want to deal with other people.
“We have electricity, and lights. We have a generator, and we have ramen, and cola! We have colaaaa~” gen taunts, as much as you love soda, you can't be tempted by sweets.
You simply raise an unimpressed eyebrow at him.
“Ah, it seems she's declined the offer, oh well.” Senku sighs, turning around, sticking a finger into his ear.
You didnt realise it would be so easy… the rest of the group looks after Senku with shock.
“Senku- what do we do with her?” The blonde girl asks.
“Let her go.” he says, looking back at you.
The woman looks confused on what to do, looking between you and senku, before singing, and walking with him, followed by all but gen.
“Bu- senku, you- aw! Fine…” gen sighs, looking defeated, looking at you with puppy eyes.
“Like that's going to work… I thought you were a famous mentalist, cmon!” you sigh, almost feeling bad making fun of him when he is giving you that face.
“Oh well, at least I tried… Well, here's my card, in case you change your mind, all you have to do, is call~” he says, grinning smugly.
“Call? Wh- are you forgetting that we are in the stone world?” you question.
“Hmmm? Did i?” gen asks, causing your eyes to widen…
They've made a phone??? If that's the case… what else do they have in plan… computers… Video games? You could finish your comic!
“Wh- wai-” you stop yourself, realizing that you had fallen for his feint… DAMNIT! Damn mentalist!
Senku stops, turning to you, picking his ear, then flicking whatever was pulled out, “did you say something?” he asks, raising an eyebrow.
His attitude irks you, as if he wasn't planning this from the start!! Those bastards, gen and senku!!! Gen is regarding you with a nervous smirk, as you groan, knowing that he did in fact snag you. Hook, line, and sinker.
“Damn you… fine! But you have to help me move. I'm not living in the village with everyone. I'm most content surrounded by trees, not more people.” you sigh, aggravated that you fell for such a trick.
Senku smirks, nodding before turning around again.
“Is it true?” you ask after him. Gen looks back at you, nervous.
“What?” Senku asks.
“You have a phone?” you ask, and gen slowly backs away. Liar…
“We will.” Senku replies simply.
So it's planned… but not yet.
“We are still working on it.” Senku states, “Gen said we had one, didn't he?” Senku sighs, shaking his head.
You sigh, well, you suppose Gen wasn't lying. Not entirely at least.
“Well, he didn't directly I suppose, technically speaking- he told the truth, but there usually is a core of truth in a particularly good lie.” you sigh, looking to the side with a bored look.
“Oh, I would like to mention that my camp is multiple hours away.” you huff out humorously, smirking at the onion.
“If it's worth bringing, we will.” Senku states.
You hum, nodding and bringing a finger to your chin. “Well, I have a cart and a teepee, and-” you stop, realizing that if they came along they would find your gunpowder that wouldn't be easy to hide. And you did not trust anyone enough to allow them to know that you have such a weapon. Who knows what could happen.
“Hmmm? Annnd? Is there something you're hiding?” gen asks, invading your personal space.
You jump away from him, scowling, “oi! Not in my face! Ain't interested!” you growl.
Gen raises an eyebrow, smirking. “Oh? You thought I was hitting on you??? How adorable~” he smirks behind his sleeve.
“Ew, get that creepy shit away from me.” you are feeling particularly defensive, overwhelmed by the scrutinising looks directed at you by the small group.
“Alright, dont get into stupid fights, calm down.” Senku sighs, waving for the group to follow back to the village. “Now isn't the time, we are on the verge of war.” he finishes, darkly- yet also sounding thrilled…?
Ah- he's psycho... you see. You aren't sure if it was a good idea to join- also war??? Maybe you can still back out… you aren't cut out for war!? You'll just curl up crying and die!
“Ehm… war? You don't expect me to fight for you do you? I'd rather not have to kill someone!” you shout, alarm evident in your voice.
“You don't have to” Senku states.
“Very interesting coming from someone who has a gun…” gen chuckles, causing you to go rigid with wide eyes…
He knows? DAMN of course he did! If he hangs out with senku, he would know nitric acid makes gunpowder- and the fact that you're alone, or since talking to tsukasa- long story short, if not for denitrification, than gunpowder. These people are dangerously intelligent- you can't keep a secret from them… damn- tsukasa was dangerously strong, and senku and gen- dangerously intelligent…
Ofcourse, having them on your side is exactly what you want- but are they on your side- or are you unwillingly on their side? In other words, are you just a tool to be used?
“Oh, my- you have been staring off into space for a good while now… what are you thinking about?” gen asks with a smug look.
Your silence basically answered his question. If you would have given him a look and asked why he thought that- damn, now you can't go back.
“Ok. so I have a gun, I’m sure you guys have built guns already- seeing as you are going to war, tch- so what I have one, living alone with abunch of humans around you that may or may not be able to murder you in an instant- of course I made a gun!” you exclaim, throwing your hands up.
Senku turns around, looking at you with an excited grin, “you actually made a gun? On your own? How did you get the air power to heat the iron?” he asks, speeding toward you with a glint in his eye.
This is not what you expected. As he stops, inches from your face, you stumble back, unsure of what is happening. “I… I- uh… why are you asking?” you ask, floundering.
“Kukuku, this is exhilarating, we haven't made guns yet, haven't been able to acquire enough nitric acid to do so. How did you do it?” he asks, his grin only growing.
“Uwaah- I just… I don't know- I basically stole a vial of it and made some with that. And for the iron, I used multiple pumps powered by gears and a water wheel…” you state.
Senku straightens, humming and holding a hand to his chin. “Just like chrome and kaseki. Heh, ten billion points for you.” he grins, before turning around and continuing to the village, waving for everyone to resume course.
You sigh, and begin to follow in silence, before the village comes back into view. You look around warily as you enter the village. All of the villagers are looking at you with either interest or suspicion.
“Welcome to the kingdom of science! Eh…” Gen starts, “you never said your name…”
You jolt, realization hitting you, “y/n! My name’s y/n… I don't introduce myself often… so little I almost forgot my name… heheh” you chuckle awkwardly.
“I see, you seem to be very untrusting. Are you okay?” gen asks, tilting his head to side eye you.
“Psh, okay? What's that got to do with anything?” you ask, frowning.
“Why, I can't care about your wellbeing?” gen whines.
“You just met me. Nobody cares about the people they just met.” you sigh.
“I see. While you are right about me, I don't think you realise that the world isn't that cruel.” Gen states.
“Psh, says the famous mentalist. Who lived the easy life before petrification.” you state, huffing, not wanting to talk anymore.
“You really are hostile aren't you. Maybe that's the reason nobody wants to get close to you.” Gen states.
Of course he is right, and you know he's right, and you really should be less hostile. You can't help but make excuses, stuff like, you are overwhelmed, and it doesn't matter if you push people away because you don't want to be around them. But on the other hand, you know that it's illogical to keep this up. You don't have to be aggressive to push people away. You could simply ask for space or walk away of your own volition. You sigh at that, not to mention all this negativity is in fact exhausting.
“Yeah. I know. I just need some time to wind down.” you state, taking a deep breath. “I haven't been around people in a long time, and this is so… tiring.”
Gen humms, nodding before walking to senku, discussing something.
“Ok. if you want, I can ask kohaku to run and get at least your teepee for the moment. So you can get a night's rest. Afterall, I'm putting everyone straight to work tomorrow, and we could use your help.” senku states, walking up to you with his hands situated upon his hips.
“That would take a long time though, wouldn't it? And this kohaku person- they don't have to go alone to carry something for me.” you state before finishing, “i can get it myself.”
“Out of the question. I'm going to explain everything that has happened up until now to you to bring you up to speed.” senku states, looking away from you while talking, scanning the crowd of villagers for something. “OI! Lioness! Get over here!” he shouts.
Lioness???
The woman who was with the party who found you walks up to him with an annoyed expression. “I'm NOT a lioness.”
“Kohaku, I need you to grab y/n’s housing. It's called a teepee. It is made up of wooden beams that meet in the middle, forming a cone, and it is covered with animal skin- right? Animal skin?” he turns to you and you nod, “alright, and can you tell her where it is?” he asks.
You nod again, “yeah, but can i have something to draw out a map with?” you ask.
Senku nods, walking to grab a stick and toss it to you.
This… works. You suppose.
“You know where the hot springs are right?” you ask, beginning to draw them out.
Kohaku nods, looking at the drawing, “I used to go there every day to collect water for my sister.” she says.
You look up to her, “oh, used to?” you ask, hoping that her sister is better now instead of… well- dead.
“That was before senku created the medicine that cured her of her sickness.” she says, smiling.
That's relieving. You smile up at her, “I'm glad she's ok.” you say, finishing off the drawing. “So anyway, my camp is right here, for me, it took me about four hours to ride there on my bike.” you state.
    “Bike?” she questions.
“Y- you don't…? Were you not revived by senku?” you ask.
She shakes her head, “no, this is Ishigami village, it was founded many years ago by people who never turned to stone.” she says.
You humm, “wild, so some people weren't petrified?” you ask, bringing your hand to your chin, thinking. How? You remember the light, it looked like it was like a wave passing over the earth from a certain altitude. Possibly- could it have only affected anything below it, thus those in space protected? Damn, the people who founded this village must have been hard core to the max.
“Anyways, a bike is a thing with two wheels that moves forward with pedalling, staying upright with the power of inertia. Er- the force that makes something continue up a hill after going down a hill. That's inertia.” you state.
“I see! So this- iner- sha pushes things?” she asks.
“Er- well… so you know how you run down a hill, and then run up something that you wouldn't be able to unless you had gained speed?” you ask, and she nods, looking intrigued. “That's inertia. It's difficult to explain hehe” you chuckle, but the woman seems to be absorbing the information, a hand to her chin in thought.
“Ok that's enough physics. We have stuff to do.” Senku states, although he seems amused.
Kohaku nods, standing and running to retrieve your teepee, and senku sits down in front of you.
“I knew you would be a perfect addition to the kingdom of science.” Senku smirks to himself. “I think you'll fit in well here. Just cut down on the aggression and you'll be fine.” he finishes.
You chuckle awkwardly, “yeah, you're right, Gen said the same thing. I'm just not sure how to feel about all this. It's a lot to take in and get used to…”
Senku nods, “hmmn, I see.” Senku is silent for a bit, before shrugging “well, get used to it, cause either way, you are going to be living in the middle of rebuilding society. Whether you are part of rebuilding it or not.” Senku states, “Now, listen up, because I'm going to explain everything that has happened thus far. And I won't say it twice”
Senku goes on to describe how he broke out of stone and survived and built on his own until taiju awoke. Then went on to make the “miracle fluid” as taiju called it. Turns out that it was in fact not just the nitric acid alone.
Senku then explained how tsukasa was awoken due to them being chased by lions- which fascinated you that lions had survived in japan all these years when japan was so different from their natural habitat. Then he explained everything that happened between him and tsukasa and how he found Kohaku and then the village. After being in the village for a while he gained relationships with so many people and eventually, after winning the grand bout out of a fluke, he became the village chief. Senku went on to tell you about his adoptive father being the one who founded the village, then moved on to explaining the small details that led them to now. They are in the middle of creating many lights to be tested, and are finishing up a telephone.
You had now gotten the gist of everything that you needed to know, and you had become increasingly exhausted as the day winded down. Sometime along the way, you heard that the village diner was ready, and you had thus decided that you would grab some food and leave to a secluded area to allow everything to sink in.
That all leads you to now, staring up to the stars, feeling the brisk air stinging your nose and cheeks. You aren't sure how to feel about everything that has happened, should you help them with their war? Senku stated that they planned not to kill anyone, but was that truly feasible? War is messy, war is hell. Would you be able to fight? You are weak willed, you break down easily and are unsure how much use you would be in a fight. Ofcourse you dont want any part of this war but you don't know if you have a choice! You can't just back out of being part of the village, and senku was right- one way or another, you would get caught up in the middle of something whether you liked it or not! All you can really do at this point is… well, the best you can.
You had finished your food a while ago and were simply looking up to the stars when you hear twigs snapping and rustling. You turn to where the sound is and see Senku. “Oi, don't just wander off. Nobody knew where you were, and Kohaku came back with your tent.” Senku groans.
“Sorry.” you say getting up and following him.
“Tch, don't apologise, there's no need to. Just learn from it and leave it.” he says, crossing his arms.
“Hmmn… how long were you looking?” you ask after a bit of silence.
“Not that long. But that doesn't make it any better.” Senku says, keeping his eyes forward.
“Ah… well, in that case, how did you find me so quickly?” you ask.
Senku stays silent, which puts you off slightly. Damnit answer- or it'll get awkward!
“It was the logical spot. People usually go to places with good views of the stars. I knew the chances of someone choosing that spot to run off to were ten billion percent.” he says.
You smile, he goes here. That's how he'd know. It's obvious.
“Yeah, ok mister ten billion percent.” you huff out in laughter.
“Don't start getting sassy with me. It's making me cringe.” he says, and you see his head sink and shoulders slump.
He's right, it is cringe, but it's hilarious to see.
You chuckle, quietly, trying to hide how funny you found it, before the two of you exit the treeline.
“Alright Kohaku. She's yours to deal with.” Senku huffs, pointing his thumb at you and walking away with his nose in the air.
Kohaku walks to you with your tent in her arms as if it were nothing. The tent is about three- four times her height, and she's just… you dont even know anymore. You nod, leading her to an area you found earlier, one with a bigger tree, but a break in the canopy where the stars are framed. You grab a few of the beams and show kohaku how to set the tent up, although it looks easy, it isn't, as you have to make sure nothing falls apart, and it's very heavy.
After setting it up, you thank kohaku, and bid her goodnight, climbing in, and passing out immediately.

5069 words holly shit. I barely finished this in time, and i have a midterm test in an hour. Also, i am in the process of uploading chapter one of this as an audio reading on youtube. Yeah- idk what im doing either but im being a madlad. Longest chapter- a video recording of me reading chapter one, AND midterm asessment. All in the same day. Im stupid but its ok.
