Ch-8- Inquistorial Squad

The inquisitorial squad was made two days ago and Malfoy had joined it. Mayrah had to be very careful and meticulous around him, she couldn't let anything slip even if he was her best friend, she wouldn't ditch the cause she was planning to join all her life, that is, Voldemort's downfall.

She was thinking all this on one of the edges of Astronomy Tower.
"Hi Raj! Planning to jump?", Malfoy said suddenly coming from behind.
"God! You scared me!", she exclaimed.
He chuckled and they settled at their usual spot.
"So? Did you hear from St. Mungos?", he asked.
"Yes, Alyla is fine. She is doing much better. If everything goes well, she will be out in a year or so.", she said with hopeful eyes.
"She will be fine soon. You will have a family then.", he said with a genuine smile.
"Yes. My guardians are really sweet and supportive but it will be great to have her around.", she said.
"So? Going to your guardians for Christmas?", he asked.
"No. I was thinking of spending a bit with them, go to Mungos for a while and come back a day early.", she laud out her plans.
"You want to come home?", he asked with a tone that surprised him in the first place.
"What?", she asked surprised.
"I mean if you want, for like a dinner or something, on your last day. We can come back to Hogwarts together.", he explained adding a, "If you are comfortable."

"No friend apart from Luna has ever invited me over to their house. Malfoy, this is so sweet.", she said a little emotional.

"Hey! I didn't mean to make you cry. Obviously you mean a lot to me, Raj.", he said keeping a hand on hers.

There was silence in the air for a while after this, his gesture felt really nice but Mayrah thought, this was her moment to clear her feelings. She thought it would be okay to ask.
She decided to break the comfortable silence.

"You know where we are getting at, right?", she said looking directly into his grey eyes.

"Mayrah, I...don't know if I am exactly sort of rr..ready for this. But yes I know we are going somewhere beyond friendship.", he admitted for the first time.

"I don't know if I am there yet either. I just wanted to know if we were on the same page.", she replied.

"Yes. We are on the same page Raj. I told you, you fell for my charms.", he said switching from a serious mode to  teasing.

"Shut up Malfoy.", she said rolling her eyes but clearly blushing.

"What if I don't?", he asked.

"I am leaving.", she said quickly and went to the door of astronomy tower and shut it.

"This is going to be fun.", he said to himself blushing.

Next day the day went quickly with everyone prepping up for christmas holidays.

 
"So lets practise the things we have learnt till now till Christmas break and then go on to learning patronus charm post the holidays.", Harry announced in their DADA session for Dumbledore's Army.Everyone nodded and proceeded towards their duties and dorms.Mayrah and Harry walked together catching up on a few things.

"So Raj? I heard things about you and Malfoy..", Harry teased with a smirk.
"In the same way I heard about you and Cho perhaps.", Mayrah replied with a smirk.
Harry turned red as a tomato and Mayrah chuckled.

"Well well, best friends hanging out in the dead of the night is it?", a voice which they saw was Pansy Parkinson's asked. She was a Slytherin prefect too and a part of Umbridge's stupid squad.
"What's your problem Parkinson?", Mayrah asked folding her arms.
"Its way past bed time."
"I am on my prefect duty you dimwit.", Mayrah replied rolling her eyes.
"I am talking about Potter. No best friends or boyfriends allowed on duties Mayrah.", she said snarkily.
"Just because you are interested to snog up half the population in Hogwarts doesn't mean everyone wants to."
"What is he doing here then?"
"Finished your lessons, Raj? Are you going to help me with Astronomy tower duty or not?", Draco commented before she could reply to Pansy.
"Whats your problem, Pansy?", he asked further.
"I just want to know why is Potter out of Gryfinndor room?"
" Raj and he have some Transfiguration lessons together.", Draco replied.
"Saved Mayrah. I have my eyes on you though.", she taunted and trotted off.
Mayrah immediately turned to Harry, "Leave. Reach your common room and don't get caught by anyone else."
He nodded and smiled, to which she returned one.
Draco turned and climbed to the Astronomy tower and she followed.
They walked around in silence for a while.
"Mayrah. Don't get caught.", Malfoy said out of blue.
"What?", She tried to act dumb.
"Don't get caught. Whatever you are upto, with Potty and his friends. I don't want to know what it is. But Umbridge is going to make your life hell if you get caught, and I will have to be the one to hand you over, don't make me do that.", he said shrugging.

She decided to have a spontaneous question answer round with him. She thought he was hiding something, something she should know.

"Why don't you join in? Maybe then I will tell you?", she tried to pull him to the good side.
"I can't."

"Come on! Malfoy you promised me that we will never go to the wrong side!"
"You know Umbridge is wrong!", she further reasoned.
"I can't join you and Potter, Try to get it Mayrah.", he said taking deep breaths.

"Why are you a part of this stupid squad in the first place?", she asked agitated.

"BECAUSE WE GOT TO KEEP ALYLA SAFE!", he shouted and immediately covered his mouth.

"WHAT?!"

"Nothing, go away Raj. Leave me alone!", he snapped.

"Malfoy, what about Alyla?!Answer me, Dammit!", she shouted holding him by the collar.

"Raj. Calm down. Sit here, I will tell you everything. Trust me, please?", he requested and made her sit on their usual place on the edge of Astronomy tower on the ground and sat next to her.

He took a deep breath and began, "The day you sent an owl to Mungos, is the day I sent one to my home. Father has a good reach in Ministry and I just wanted to know from my end if ministry was actually interferring at Mungos. I sent letter to my mother, but by mistake my dad got the hold of that letter. I can't tell you a lot, but I am in a bit of a soup at home, the relationship between me and my father is strained and really taxing from me, I am just staying in that house for my mother, I would have long left that hell if not for her. Anyways, when he caught the letter, he struck a deal with me. He dealt that he shall give me the news and happenings in St. Mungos and stop any harm to any patient if I agreed at first place to be a party with Umbridge and be in her good books as she is the future of Hogwarts and the ministry. He is a vile, evil and ambitious man and he wants me to become nothing short of it and follow his footsteps to power and fame.", he completed sighing heavily looking at the cresent moon.

"You agreed to this?", was the only thing she asked.

"I had to, we have got to keep Alyla safe, and if there is a bit of honesty left in that man, we have got to keep patients at Mungos safe. I promise, nothing will happen to Alyla.", he completed keeping a hand on hers.

"Are you absolutely mental? What if something happens to you? What if Umbridge does something to you? What if by all this your father is trying to induct you on the dark side? I can't lose you! I have lost way too many people!", she asked all worked up.

He cupped her face and said, " It will all be okay. I will make it okay. I promise."

"I don't want you to pay the price.", she said looking in his eyes, holding the hand he is holding her face with.

"I will be okay. I have you.", he said kissing her forehead and hugging her tight.
She would soon know what all is going to go wrong. Till then, he wants to live the best days with her, whatever price he has to pay.
