The first snow is always the best. That amazing feeling to wake up to see that frost built up outside.
Sapphire could never really remember when she saw the first snow. It never felt important. Just another day. But, when Sage came along, suddenly it all felt different. She would notice things like this more often and appreciate it more. After everything that had happened with her parents and family she never saw the light in the darkness. Until now.
When Sapphire was a child her parents were already over 40, she was a surprise. She tried her hardest to meet their standards and by far was the most well behaved of all of her siblings. But there was still that 10 year age gap. She was resented by all of her family including her siblings. One of them was almost turning 20. It was when she was forgotten on a family holiday that she left and ran away to a small country named Zoucia. Where she currently lived. She wasn't going to run this far but thought that maybe they would file a missing persons report. They never did.
She was taken in by the people there and accepted. They all agreed to help her as long as she helped them. Many of them were elderly and found it hard to do physical work.

"Saph? . . . Saph, are you ok?" Sage asked as they sat on the couch together in silence.
The other nodded unenthusiastically.
"You sure, You've been staring at the floor for an awfully long time . . ." Sage muttered in a worried tone.
"The carpet needs replacing." A monotone voice mumbled.
"You sure that's what you were thinking about?"
"No."
"Wanna talk about it?"
"Not really."
"Ok, If you ever do, I am here for you." Sage reassured them.
Though Sapphire trusted her partner she just couldn't bring herself to say anything to them. It felt like any time it came up her family were there, grabbing her by the throat, forcing her not to say anything bad about them. She felt like she would be the bad person If she ever complained about them.
She thought back to a Christmas, she couldn't remember a lot about it but she did remember that it was the one time she had gotten a present. A cake recipe book. Though the thought process was, for the adults at least, that she could cook more for them She loved it. It was what got her into baking. She still had it somewhere around on her shelves of books.
She wondered why she could barely remember her childhood.
It was all just a blur, maybe she had forgotten after not thinking about it for so long. She hoped that was the case. . .

"So~. . . I was thinking, maybe we could go see the winter wonderland. It's in a nearby city with a shopping center and we could buy gifts for each other!" Sage yelled enthusiastically.
"I would love that!" Saph's face lit up as she processed the idea, savoring every moment of her imagination as she could.
"Well go get ready! It'll take an hour or so to get there!" Sage exclaimed, standing up and running up the stairs, quickly followed by their partner.
When the two got upstairs Sapphire found Sage looking through her wardrobe to find something for them to wear.
Eventually, Sage had picked out two outfits. One with nude coloured tights, a white pleated skirt and a red Christmas jumper with a Santa design on it. The other outfit had white trousers and a green Christmas tree design on it.
