Eden's point of view
My legs pushed further as I sprinted my way across the track. I pushed faster, trying to wake my body up.
Last night had been the same as many nights before. I tossed and turned for hours, unable to let my mind think of anything but what happened all those years ago.
I don't know why these memories were resurfacing now, all these years later. I pushed it down, remembering that my birthday was soon and blamed it on that. My birthday was always a terrible reminder for the pack, no matter how many years passed by.
It marked another year without our future Alpha. Another year we had failed to find him and another year our goddess refused to pay us mind.
After another lap around the track, I came to a finish. My breath came out in rags as I stood next to the finishing line trying to calm my racing heart.
"What in goddess name are you doing?" A voice called out in question.
I whipped around towards the direction in which the voice came. It was early and training hadn't started yet.
There in the early morning sun stood Quinn. Quinn North was a warrior like me, we had been the closest of friends since before I could walk. She had trained with me for years and was there for me as I got promoted to head warrior.
It was a position I had worked for my entire life, I wanted to carry on the family tradition. But unlike all the Alpha's, Beta's and Gamma's, my position was not a birthright.
I was not automatically handed life to me on a golden platter. I had to work for it. But I had always liked a challenge.
I had been promoted just over a year ago but held the position proudly. I was the first female head warrior but I intended on not being the last.
"I was busy letting off some steam," I answered truthfully staring at her approaching figure.
I took in Quinn's outfit. She wore black leggings and a black top, she had her hiking shoes on which was odd for her.
Her black hair was tied back in a neat ponytail and her deep cedar eyes stared back at me in excitement.
"What are you doing here?" I questioned, more interested in her presence.
For a warrior, Quinn was the epitome of laziness. It took two grown wolves to drag her to training some mornings. This was very unlike her.
"The pack heard some crazy lady running around their track and sent me to investigate," She said, deeply serious.
I burst out laughing at her, shaking my head at the thought of the pack ever entrusting her with anything.
"Okay, fine, the real reason I'm here is to take you out on a hike."
"A hike?" I questioned while raising my eyebrows pointedly towards her.
"Yes, you've been so stressed out lately and it's becoming quite annoying," She deadpanned, trudging her way towards me.
"Come on, you're going."
She grabbed my hand and pulled me in the direction of the forest. It was a surprisingly cool summer day. The wind blew a gentle breeze and the thick leaves shaded us from the sun's harsh rays.
We eventually made it to the open field high above the pack grounds. It was a beautiful spot Quinn and I had found many years ago.
It blossomed with pastel-coloured wildflowers. They dotted the large open green expanse and made for a beautiful picnic area. Not that Quinn had thought to bring any food with us on this little adventure.
