Even just a glimpse of a tail would've been enough.
Trying to find Victoria in the London alleys in the middle of the night was difficult. Quaxo poked his head through multiple little spaces between buildings to find her- he even looked through the same alleys more than once.
"No luck?" Coristo, who was close by, asked occasionally to break the silence in the dark.
"No," Quaxo would answer each time. "Where's Raduan?"
"I dunno."
This continued on for a while when they heard scattering of footsteps from above. Quaxo and Coristo stopped moving and looked up, getting ready for anything that might come appear in front of them.
Then, when they heard a ridiculous 'yyyyaaaaaagh!" and a bundle of orange fur dropping onto the ground.
Coristo sighed in disgust. "Raduan."
Misto scurried out of a random passageway and said, "I think I found them!"
"What? Where?"
"Come!" Misto led the three others to the dark areas closer to resident homes and they looked up. There was nothing at first, but they heard a playful giggle of a female cat and the shushing of a male, and three silhouettes of cats ran into one of the windows.
"One of them was definitely Victoria," Quaxo hissed. "I could see parts of her pattern in the faint lights. Who's she with, though? Who are the other two?"
"Most likely Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer," Misto said quietly.
Coristo turned to him in surprise. "What did you say?"
"You know," Misto said. "Those twin thieves."
"They were twins?" Raduan said and Quaxo shoved him.
"Not. Important," he hissed and turned to Misto. "Is it bad news... if Victoria's with them?"
"In a way, yes," Misto said, looking more scared each second. "They're pretty mischievous- in a not-very-good way."
Oh shoot.
"Which house did they get into?" Quaxo asked.
The four of them were silent.
"We weren't looking very carefully earlier, were we?" Quaxo muttered.
"Okay, let's split up," Coristo said. "Just find a random house around here and look for them."
The four of them parted and jumped onto the walls of different houses. Just as Quaxo balanced carefully on a wall that led into a slightly open window of a house, he could hear Munkustrap and some other cats calling for Victoria.
Just then, the world suddenly turned around him. He blinked in surprise- and when he opened his eyes, he wasn't at the window anymore.
He was at a junkyard- a junkyard filled with more useless junk than the Jellicle tribe hung around. He looked around, trying to find out exactly where he was. He shivered as the chilly air brushed against his fur.
