Real- A Katniss and Peeta fanfic

Chapter ~22~

Katniss POV

Two weeks later I am woken up by my stomach emptying itself. I sprint to the toilet as quickly as I can before I puke. As I heave I feel Peeta behind me holding back my hair. Once I stand up and wash out my mouth, I say "Peeta, dear, I think I may be pregnant again." A smile lights up his face as he hands me a pregnancy test. I take it and then we wait. Once it's been about ten minutes I look at it and see a little plus sign. I grin and say "We're having another baby Peeta!" He smiles and spins me in his arms. We eventually get dressed and go get Willow.

After we are all dressed we head over to my mother's house to tell her about the news. She greets us at the door and brings us inside. She holds Willow in her lap as I clutch Peeta's hand. I clear my throat and say "We have some news mom." She grins and says "What is it sweetie?" I look at Peeta and he smiles before saying "Katniss is pregnant again! We're having another baby." My mom freaks out. She says "Oh my gosh congratulations! I am so happy for you two!" I smile and say "Thank you mom." After we visit with her for awhile longer we head to the doctor.

After I have my doctor appointment we decide to go to Haymitch and Effie's. Peeta cooks us dinner while me and Hayfie, as I refer to them as, visit. Once Peeta is done cooking he brings the food in. As we eat Peeta says "Hey so, we have some news." Haymitch says "What did you knock her up again or something?" I blush bright read and Peeta says "Well uh... Yeah, actually." Haymitch says "Oh my God!" Effie freaks out just as my mom did. Once we finish eating and Effie finally calms down me and Peeta leave to go visit Nick and Sky.

We knock on the door and it takes awhile before they come answer it. When they do they both have messed up hair and are berthing heavily. I smirk, knowing that Peeta and I probably interrupted them having a little fun. Sky smiles at us and says "Hey guys!" Peeta grins and says "Hey there, mind if we come in?" Nick leads us in and we sit on the couch. I hold Willow in my arms as she starts to drift off to sleep. Nick asks "So what brings you guys down?" Peeta smiles and says "Well, we actually have some news." Sky asks "What is it?" I grin and say "Well, I'm um... I'm pregnant again!" Nick and Sky both congratulate us.

Nick looks at Sky and she nods. He says "We actually have some news too. We were going to wait to tell everybody but we really can't keep it to ourselves. The thing is, Sky is actually pregnant too." Peeta practically has a heart attack. He says "You guys had sex?!? Oh my God! But you guys are both so young! I mean I'm happy for you I'm just freaking out!" Nick chuckles and says "Peeta, we are 19 and very in love. We are going to be getting married pretty soon and we are starting a family." I grin and hug them both. I say "Congratulations you guys I'm so happy for you two!" Sky smiles and says "I'm really nervous but also very excited." I take her hand and say "You're going to do great sweetie! If you need anything just call me." She hugs me and says "Thank you Katniss."

We leave a little bit later and head home. I tuck Willow in but she is fussing. I get her out of her crib and sit in the rocking chair with her and sing.

"Deep in the meadow,
under the Willow,
a bed of grass,
a soft green pillow."

I continue singing until she finally drifts off to sleep. Once I scoop her up and put her back in her crib I turn and see Peeta. He is standing in the doorway, staring at me lovingly. He whispers "I love when you sing." I smile and hug him tight. I whisper in his ear, "I am so happy to be having another baby with you." He grins and says "I love you Katniss, I'm so happy that our family is growing."

He picks me up and takes me into our bedroom. We get our clothes off and then get into bed together. I snuggles into him and he holds me tightly. I whisper "Peeta, I know we went through so much to get to where we are today but it's worth it. I'm so glad to be here with you. I love you so much. I'm so lucky to have you." He smiles and pulls me closer. He whispers "I love you too Katniss. You are everything I've ever wanted. You always make me so happy. I love you." I smile as I look into his beautiful eyes. He gives me a soft kiss and I close my eyes and savor just being there with him.

Six more months pass quickly. While I am still very nervous about this pregnancy, but I'm no where near as anxious as I was about Willow. It's been much easier this time. Peeta is just as helpful and considerate as he was last time. We have an appointment today to find out the sex of the baby. I am very excited. Peeta helps me get dressed in the morning since I'm already huge. Before we go to the doctors we drop Willow off at my mom's house.

As we walk, me and Peeta talk. He asks "What do your motherly instincts tell you we're going to have this time?" I smile and say "I think it's going to be a boy. I really hope it is." Peeta grins at me. We soon get to the doctor and I am very excited. Dr. Jackson comes into the room and says "It's nice to see you again guys!"

We greet her and then I lay down on the table and pull my shirt up over my belly. I try to relax as the ultrasound starts. Peeta squeezes my hand as Dr. Jackson says "The baby looks very healthy and it's a boy!" I smile so wide it feels as though my face will split. Peeta kisses my cheek happily as he wipes the gel off my stomach.

Once we get home Sky calls me, sobbing. I say "Sky, honey, what's wrong?" She tries to calm herself down as she sobs out "Could you come over?" I tell her "Of course!" And then run over to her house. Once I get there I see her curled into Nick, wailing. Nick is trying to comfort her, though it's obvious he's trying to keep himself held together. I sit down next to them and say "Sky, sweetie, what is it?" She looks up at me and says "I- I had a miscarriage. My baby died!"

Oh my God. I hug her tight in my arms and say "I am so, so sorry honey. You don't deserve this at all." She just cries and tries to stop sobbing. I rub my hand over her shoulder and say "Sky, you are like a daughter to me. I am always here for you. I am so horribly sorry. You would have been a wonderful mother. You are an amazing girl." She hugs me, still crying, and says "Thank you Katniss." I say "Sky honey, I love you. Please tell me if there's anything I can do for you." She just nods and says "I'll be okay. I just need some time alone with Nick." I give her a kiss on the forehead and then head home.

Peeta looks worried as I come inside. He asks "What happened Katniss?" He can tell there's something wrong from one glance at me. I hug him before saying, "Sky had a miscarriage." Peeta's face falls. He says "Oh no, that poor girl, and Nick. Oh God. That's not fair." I nod and say "I feel horrible about it. They don't deserve this." Peeta nods and says "I hope they won't give up on their dream of a family."

I nod and then kiss him gently. I say "We should probably head over to my mom's and get Willow." He takes my hand as we walk over there. He says "Katniss I don't know how a heart like yours ever managed to love a heart like mine, but I'm sure glad it did. I am so blessed to have you and our family. This is all I ever could have asked for." I smile at his sweet sincerity and agree with him as I see my daughter smiling and running to me.
