"Okay. I'm nervous. Everyone is watching me."
The rows are filled with friends, family, and even some of the other girls I dated. Even Shaun is here.
The priest is the Irishman from the bar - he's just playing himself off like he can do that.
My best man is Ian. Cause why not choose a shaggy, unfazed waiter for the job?
And then, Juliet the flower girl walks out with a basket of flowers, sprinkling them on the path to the stands.
Emilia, my soon to be wife is right beside her.
It's embarrassing to both of us - because we're both still pretty young. And we never saw ourselves getting here in the end.
But hey - we're here now and my woman is here to see me.
"Hey. Sweet dress."
"Nice tux."
Emilia gets over the steps without tripping on her dress and turns to face me.
"We're here. Everyone is here..."
Irishman starts talking and we both shut up.
"Aite -- Conner, do ya take this woman as your lawfully wedded wife?"
"I do."
"Aite. Emilia, do ya agree to washing this guy's dishes and making him sandwiches for the rest of your life?"
"Sure."
Of course, the guy just throws his bible off his podium.
"Okay, forget this bible stuff. Why are you two even getting married? Conner, she looks more like your daughter than anything! Look at your height difference."
"I don't care. She's never been more beautiful today."
"You could have been with any of those girls in the crowd there. Look, that big brunette over there - but you chose Emilia of all people?"
The brunette he's referring to is Theresa.
"I know a lot of those girls are really pretty and everything. But no offense... I only didn't feel anything because they... actually didn't need me."
"What are you sayin', kid?"
"Emilia is someone I got to warm up to for my entire life. She's the only person I want to spend my entire life with. Those girls may be really attractive, and they are. They are all beautiful people in their own ways, they're all so different, fun, and challenging. I know them all pretty well and I only know I want to be with Emilia for the rest of my life."
I pick her up and she kisses me as I hold her onto me. Everyone claps and I put her down.
"Okay lad. You really proved me something, aite? But really. Can we go get some cake?"
The wedding is a lot of fun, but I take Emilia away from the crowd so we can talk on our own.
"How did we get here today? How did we... afford all this?"
"Well, my parents are happy I found someone so they paid for all this. They're not too happy about your height though."
"At least we have the money to do what we want now."
"We do... but my parents still want me to have kids."
"PLURAL? KIDS?"
"I guess one would work. But they want two."
"Well... You know you can have as many as you want with me."
Which doesn't seem like something Emilia would say.
"I'll... take good care of you for the rest of our lives, and I'll do what you tell me. I... Want you to have the best while you're with me."
"Look how we've changed. Look how we've changed, Conner."
"I know. I couldn't be happier at the moment though."
"Me neither. When we get home, we'll take on another heat rush..."
