Draco traps Blair in his arms when he feels her start to wake up, clinging to her body. "Two more minutes," He mumbles against her hair, his heart as heavy as a rock. "I'm not ready to let you go."
Blair, still drowsy from sleep, is conscious enough to realize that this morning is far from peaceful. If he doesn't want her to go, why won't he just do what's necessary to make her stay? Say the words.
They share two minutes in silence, just listening to each other's breathing, having just one last moment of intimacy together. Blair thinks in this silence. She thinks. She thinks. She thinks. And yet none of her thoughts comfort her. Some thoughts even say she's being overdramatic, and should just stay with him to avoid any further heartache. But Blair has always craved love, a deep intense kind of love that lingers all the time— and Draco can't love her.
Not yet at least.
After this reminder to herself, Blair frees herself from his grip, her voice hoarse and soft when she finally speaks to him. "I'm going to be late for breakfast."
Blair grabs her own sweater instead of his, walking towards the bathroom without looking back.
She comes back out a few minutes later all freshed up and changed, finding Draco buttoning his white shirt before tucking it into his black dress pants. His usual teaching outfit never fails to look mesmerizing. Even now, her heart skips a beat.
She doesn't want to make this more complicated than it already is by staying a little longer or talking to him. So she stuffs her phone into her bag and turns towards the door, until Draco grabs her wrist. A small part of her hoped he would.
"Blair—"
"Don't make this any harder for me. Last night was.. it was a mistake." She says, looking down at the floor. Last night should feel like a mistake.
"I just.." Draco says, taking in a deep breath. "I just want you to know that nothing else has to change. I can still be your safe place to come to when anything's amiss. My door is always open for you, doesn't matter what for."
Blair wonders how on earth she'll be able to find anyone else to be her safe place, when Draco has always been the only one to feel that way to her. "Yeah.. yeah, I know." She whispers.
He leans in and presses a kiss swiftly to her forehead. Blair's bottom lip quivers as he pulls away, the moment gone too soon. "I should go now." She mutters, turning around at once before he can see the tears in her eyes, rushing to the door.
Blair leaves his room and convinces herself this will get easier with the day, but barely believes herself. She breathes deeply in and out and whispers to herself to get it together, to stop whining about something she did herself. She left— this is a good thing. She won't be like her mother.
She takes her phone out of her bag when she hears it vibrate, hoping for a text from the wrong person.
"Now what would the Headmistress say if she knows that one of her students is getting cozy with her teacher, sweetheart?"
The text is not from anyone she knows, it's anonymous. "What on earth.." Blair mutters, reading it at least five times before that realization settles in and a sting of anxiety troubles her chest. She turns to look around her, but she's all alone in the dungeons. This has to be some sick joke.
"Who is this?" She sends back, even though it is quite obvious he or she won't ever answer that. And they don't. The person reads the text, but doesn't reply. This could be anyone.
__________
Blair sits down with her friends in the Great Hall, shocking Emris. "Sweetie, I tried to call you over a hundred times yesterday, why didn't you answer? I've been worried sick."
