"I know you lied."
Blair, who has been lying in the same position for the last five minutes, raises her head and looks at Draco. Shivers go down her naked body, and not just because it's cold in the room.
"What?" She says, her voice barely audible.
Draco tucks her hair behind her ear, sighing. "I don't know what upsets me more— that you made me believe you thought about the person I hate most during sex, or that you only said that to prevent me from reading your mind and finding out that you want to leave me." He whispers.
Blair feels like she's getting punched in the gut, her fear rippling through her and leaving horrible, horrible pain behind. She's got to be in trouble now, he's never gonna forgive her. But he's calmer than she imagined he would be. Or is he?
"I—I don't want to leave you," She says, looking down to avoid his piercing gaze that makes her feel as if he's peeling off the remaining layers she has. "You don't understand.."
Draco takes her jaw firmly into his hand and forces her to look at him again. "Do you know what it does to me to find out what you really think? It hurts, Blair. After everything I've done for you?"
Guilt strikes her right in her chest, even when it's not supposed to. "I don't want to leave you, I just want to reassure Theo and At— Emris.. they're worried sick and I feel horrible about it." Blair says, correcting herself on time before she says the forbidden name. Atlas's name is like saying Voldemort's.
"But you'll really hurt me if you try to leave," Draco says, curving his brows upwards. "How could I possibly live without you? I'd rather die. I don't want to exist without you by my side, Blair. You can't leave. I need you more than they do.."
She nods, the guilt weeping inside of her, creating a misplaced mess. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to make you feel that way. I want to stay, I promise.."
Draco's frown fades, and his energy switches just like that. "Just don't let it happen again, okay?"
Blair nods again, her bottom lip quivering. "Please, don't be mad at me."
"Oh, baby, I'm not mad at you," Draco says softly, letting go of her jaw. He presses a kiss to the bridge of her nose. "I was just disappointed. We were doing so good yesterday, and now all this fuss about some boy that doesn't even deserve you, and a family that doesn't even care like I do.."
Deep down, Draco knows how wrong it is to use her weak spots against her and manipulate her that way, but he doesn't believe being nice will solve anything. Being nice made him lose her before.
"I know, I know, I.. I take you for granted sometimes. You do so much for me.." Blair whispers hoarsely, relief stroking her warm skin when she's certain he's not angry with her. Draco's done so much wrong, but so much right, too. Her youth would've been unbearable without him.
"I do." Draco nods, placing his hand on her ass, on the red skin that burns at the contact. "And I don't want to be mad at you or hurt you, but sometimes I think it's the only way to remind you what I'm capable of." He says.
Blair's heart drops into her stomach, her relief fading like smoke. "I know what you're capable of— I read all the newspapers, and heard people talk about what you did." She croaks.
Sometimes, the universe slaps her in the face and reminds her that she loves a murderer.
"Not everything I did was mentioned in the newspapers." He whispers. He feeds on her fear in moments like these, desperate to take more and more, only to lose more of his goodness during the process. What kind of sadist is addicted to watching the girl he loves be absolutely terrified of him?
