That night I stayed in Gabriel's room. He slept on the couch and let me have the bed. My brothers convinced me to come to breakfast this morning. I wanted to ask about Apollo but I never did.
Gabe and I walk down to breakfast in silence. I'm enjoying his quiet presence, it's comforting me. I reach and grab his hand, squeezing it to show my thanks. He gives me a warm smile and we walk hand in hand to the dining hall.
As we enter the room I'm scanning the faces of everyone there. I see Cooper, Thea, Amarah, Tali, Hudson, my dad, step mom and Orion. I don't see Ares and I frown.
"He'll be here in a minute." Gabriel whispers to me and I can only hope he's talking about Ares.
I smell Ares and the scent of my mate approaching. I take a deep breath, to enjoy the last bit of fresh air I'll get for awhile. I look to everyone and give them a soft smile accompanied by a wave, before taking my seat. Gabe makes a plate with small portions of everything because he knows I won't be able to eat much.
Before I can take my first bite Ares walks in with a rough looking Apollo. My heart aches seeing him so distraught. I look away quickly, I can't allow him to control me. I take a deep breath and I start picking at the food.
"Is something wrong with the food?" My step mom asks and I shake my head. I hear her scoff and I roll my eyes.
"What a bitch." Echo says and I giggle back to her. I feel everyone's eyes on me and I turn a deep shade of red. Guess my giggle wasn't as internal as I thought. I hear a chair scrape across the floor and feminine footsteps heading out of the room. When I look up, I see my step mom is gone.
"What crawled up her ass?" I ask Gabe.
"She's tired of you not talking to anyone. Especially us and she doesn't understand why you did what you did." Gabe explains to me.
"What if it was dad?" I snap at him, "Sorry."
"It's fine Ren, I get it. I wouldn't know what to do if Katie did that. I also can't fathom being in Apollo's shoes either." He says and I roll my eyes.
As if Apollo heard his name, I feel his eyes burning holes into me. I refuse to meet his gaze because if I do, I'll get lost is his flame. I can't allow myself to do it again. I give Gabe a pleading look and he excuses us.
As soon as we leave the room, I let out a breath I didn't even know I was holding. Avoiding Apollo is going to be a hell of a lot harder than I thought.
Days turned into weeks and I've spent my time actively avoiding him. I started talking a week ago, mainly to appease my step mother who was just so upset by it. It's ridiculous if you ask me, it has nothing to do with her.I've put on weight since I'm eating regularly. Just recently I've started training with my brothers. I need something to help me feel like I'm not going insane.
I'm sitting on the balcony in the ballroom and I'm dangling my feet over the edge. Despite my efforts, Apollo is constantly on my mind. As I stare up at the moon, I feel the longing to be with him intensify. I'm slowly losing my resolve, one conversation won't hurt right?
"Luna can I talk to you?" I hear a soft voice ask me. I turn around and see Thea standing back towards the door, looking at her hands.
"I'm not a Luna, Thea, plus I'm your friend, call me Ren." I say to her and give her a soft smile before turning my gaze back to the view. "Come sit and we can talk."
I hear shuffling and she's next to me. "You know, I never got to thank you." She says and I look at her clearly confused.
"You saved Amarah as well as the rest of us. You didn't even know us and yet you saved our lives. Ren, you sacrificed yourself for us and I don't know what to say. Thank you just doesn't seem to be enough." Thea says to me, her blue eyes shining with unshed tears, "I'm also so sorry Ren."
