Chapter 28

Io's P.O.V. (Present)

A squealing sound pulls me from my story and I look at the culprit and see Dahlia bouncing with excitement.

"Can I tell this part Ren? Pretty please?" She begs me and I give her a smile.

"Of course. You probably have a better perspective than I do anyway." I say to her and she squeals again. She winces and starts rubbing her belly.

"Sorry baby, mommy got overly excited." She mumbles to her very large baby bump.

"Mom!" Koda whines, "Tell us the story!"

A resounding sound of agreement comes from the kids and Dahlia laughs.

"Okay, okay, so Ares came back inside.." she starts, pulling us right back into our story.

Dahlia's P.O.V.

I watched as Ren runs outside and Ares follows quickly behind. Good, she's gonna need her brother. A few moments later Ares is back inside and talking to the DJ. I make my way over to the girls.

"Is she okay? I don't know why he was here." Katie grumbles, showing her dislike for Ren's mate.

"She's as okay as she can be. You being snotty about her mate doesn't help anything Katie." I snap back at her, very displeased. That's her mate and no matter what he's done, that fact remains the same.

"He hurt her and left her, alone and in heat. He doesn't just get my forgiveness." Katie snaps back at me and I feel my wolf pacing in my mind.

"I know what he did! We all do. What if it was Gabe huh? Would you forgive him? Don't do this because everyone's anger towards Ren's mate is stopping her from being happy. She's our friend and this is killing her, slowly and painfully. Just back the fuck off and let them sort it out themselves. As fucking mates." I snarl at her leaving no more room for discussion. All the girls give me a look, knowing that if it was their mates, they would have already been in their arms.

I feel arms wrap around my waist and lips pressed to my temple. My wolf purrs at the touch and I sink into his embrace, calming down instantly. I turn to look at my mate, "Are we leaving? Is she okay?"

"No we aren't leaving. She's going to be singing after this guy." Ares says pointing to the guy on stage. I give him a curious look. Ren has an amazing voice but she does not sing in front of people, especially not alone.

"Are you sure?" I whisper to him concerned and he just nods his response. I see Apollo approaching us and he doesn't look very happy. Great. Another pissed off Alpha wolf, just what we need.

"Why did you guys leave Ren?" He says to us rather loudly. I see Ares eyes glaze over and he has an amused smirk on his face.

"Look man," Ares starts to explain but Apollo cuts him off, "I know I can't be there for her but please someone has to. I'm begging you guys to go be with her so she's not alone. Please." All his anger dissolving into that of sadness for his mate. My heart squeezes at just how much he loves her.

"She's not alone." Kennedy whispers. Apollo's eyes widen and then I see tears start to form in them, "Oh." He whispers dejectedly, thinking his mate has some sort of male company. Stupid wolf.

"Not anything like that." I say reassuring him and he gives me a small smile. I hear the guy finish his song and everyone is clapping for him. He walks off the stage and the DJ goes to announce the next singer.

"Okay everyone! We have a very special person singing this next song for her lovely mate. Please give her a big round of applause!" He says and the crowd erupts in cheers.
