All the Scott family had come out to see Nathan's basketball game with the Charleston Chiefs.

"This is Charles on Chiefs basketball, and we've got a close one. The chiefs trail by one with Ten seconds left in the clock." The commentator spoke through the microphone as Haley, Jamie and the teens all stood up watching the game.

They all watch as Nathan gets over looked and sat on the bench, "aw come on!" Jamie shouts as Nathan looks up at his family.

"Here we go. Ten seconds left. Chiefs done by one." The Scott family watch as the point guard tries to move around player to get the ball. "Chiefs get the ball in bound to Rhodes at the top of the key, he looks at Devon Fox." They watch as he gets ready to shoot but gets blocked by the other team. "Fox with the hot hand tonight, he's got 33 points, he's the guy you want with the ball." Due to being blocked and instead of passing Devon the point guard for the chiefs decides he can take it himself. "Moving left, he's double teamed up there, four seconds left. Rhodes is free underneath, but Fox shoots the ball instead..." and unfortunately the ball comes short and misses the basket. "Nothing but air. It's no good and the chiefs lose a heartbreaker." Everyone in the group sighs.

The group of Scott's wait for Nathan to come out the changing room knowing he was Will sad about the lose. Nathan walks down the sets to meet his family feeling disheartened, "well this is the first five game losing streak of my career. I think I like winning better."

Jamie feeling very irritated but the teams point guards, "you didn't lose daddy. Those losers did!" He exclaimed.

The eldest sibling couldn't help but chuckle, Will put his arm around Jamie, "somebody's a little fired up." He jokes before looking at his dad, "but yeah that's guys crap." Eating an elbow to the ribs from Haley as if saying not to encourage Jamie.

Nathan shakes his head as he looks at his son, "you know what Jamie? I wear that uniform just like they do, so doesn't matter if I'm playing or not, it's still my team. We win as a team and we lose as a team. Remember that, ok?"

"Ok." The boy mubbled as he took his sisters hand and walked down the steps with her but stopped when Raven turned round to face her dad. "The other point guard still crap." Nathan shoots her a look trying to stay serious but his lips turn up into a small smile.

The next day the teens and Jamie were sat on a bench with Dan eating ice cream. "What's that grandpa?" Jamie asked Dan when he spotted his pager. Dan holds it in the air to show Jamie and the teens who had already worked out what it was, "that's the thing that makes noise when it's time for me to get better." He told the littlest Scott. "When is it supposed to make the noise?" Jamie continued to question.

The eldest Scott looked at the three sadly, "wish I knew." Trying to quickly change the topic, "so tell me how's your dad?" He asked the three.

Raven and Will were unsure what to say as they knew Nathan relationship with Dan was rocky however yet again that didn't stop Jamie, "he finally made the team, but he never gets to play. The teams not very good. They always lose." The boy concluded.

"Well. That's ok. He always rises to the top you know? It's not just about the Xs and Os. It's about heart and your dad has plenty of that. So don't worry." Dan told the group as he finished Raven picked up the pager and then turned to Jamie, "do you hear that Jamie?" The boy continued the playfulness as he put it to his ear, "i did. I think it made a sound."

Dan enjoyed their playfulness, especially watching his granddaughter who he thought he'd never meet again, "not just yet buddies. But when it does you'll be the first to know." He said looking around all his grandkids.

"Obviously it can't be yet." Will said as he picked up a basketball, "we have a game to play." He winked at his siblings and grandad. As they all busted out laughing.

The teens left Jamie back at home as they went with Dan to the river court where there dad was practicing. They see him making baskets, "wow it's a good thing to see you haven't lost your shooting touch." Dan commented as he caught the ball, "so I heard your teams lost five straight. I know how that feels. Actually I don't." He passed the ball to the teens who began their own little game. Nathan looked at his dad, "did you come here just to rub it in?"

The eldest Scott shuck his head, "no I came to tel you that losing has its advantages." Nathan scoff at his dads remark, "here we go. Some classic Dan Scott advice that doesn't apply to normal people. I'm all ears. What have you got for me?" Nathan questioned his father as he looked at his kids who were acting as if they weren't eavesdropping.

"Losing always forces change, Nathan." Dan told his son, "your times coming." The father of three lightly shock his head, "I don't know about that. Best guy on the team plays in front of me."

It was Dans turn to scoff at his son, "oh, you know what I call the best player on a losing team." As Nathan muttered that the player was know as the "loser." Making the teens laugh he knew they were listening. "Bingo a loser." Dan carried on, "right now, you're playing on his team, but pretty soon, he's gonna be playing on yours."

Nathan looked to his kids watching as RJ take the ball slides passed Will and makes a basket, "I'm not so sure about that." He admitted to his father. Dan still not understanding the doubt in his son, "you're gonna get your chance, Nathan. We both know that. The thing is when you do, Will you be ready? Will you make the most of it?" Only to have Will shout in the background, "of course he will." Making both adults crack a smile. "See this?" Dan asked his son as he held up his pager, "this thing gonna decided whether or not I get a second chance. And I promise you...if I do. I'm going to make the most of it." As Dan turned to leave he stopped and looked at his son, "right now... all you can do is wait."

Nathan watched his dad leave before he turned to his teens, laughing lightly to himself, "do we need a conversation about eavesdropping? You little snoops." He said as he stole the ball from his kids.

The group of three went back home the teens had work to catch up on as well as Nathan who wanted to go through the plays again. Jamie rushed into his sisters room with the phone both of them looked at him confused as he put in a number and it started ringing, he motioned for his siblings to come over so they all laid on Ravens bed as Jamie put the phone on speaker, when someone answered the youngest started speaking, "hi this is Jamie Scott I'm with my two older siblings, Raven and Will Scott. We need to talk." The teens looked at the youngest really confused as he carried on talking to whoever was on the other end, "so you see, it's not all about Xs and Os. It's about heart. I just think you should really think about that." The teens smirked at their youngest realising Jamie had called Nathan's team coach. When he ended the call the two teens started to tickle their little brother allowing laughter to carry throughout the house.

"Well this feels like de ja vu all over again. We're all tied up. Nine second left!" The commentator spoke into the microphone.

The group went to watch Nathan play that evening, and were pleasantly surprised to find him actually playing on the court instead of sat on the bench. The group watch as Nathan didn't take the winning shot but helped by passing it to a player, showing his kids it's better to win together than by yourself.

As the game finished the group of four were stood on the court, the kids passing the ball between them shooting hoops, as Haley did a mini cheer routine for them while they waited for Nathan to return.

For once everything seemed to be moving in the right direction.
