"Careful!" you warned, grabbing your wandering toddler as she began to tug on the branches of the Christmas tree. She'd recently learned to walk and loved to waddle all over the house, grabbing onto anything that was within her reach. She only giggled in response, reaching up to play with your hair. "We don't play with Christmas trees, little lady!"
"Dada!" she shouted.
"Nuh uh, Dada isn't going to let you get away with this, little lady," you laughed, pressing kisses to her chubby cheeks.
"You picking on my little girl?" Bucky asked, coming out of the kitchen with a plate of freshly baked chocolate chip cookies. He set the plate down on a side table before scooping up Winnie. "Is Mama being mean to you, baby?"
She nodded, babbling as she pointed to the tree.
"Oh, she wouldn't let you play with the tree? How cruel!" he wailed. "She's just lookin' out for you, baby. She doesn't want you to get hurt!"
"Here, baby, you can play with this tree!" you said, scooping up a small Christmas tree Squishmallow that Uncle Steve had bought her the other day. Winnie cheered, grabbing at the plush tree and squeezing it tight.
Bucky looked over at you, smiling. "I can't believe it's our first Christmas as a family."
"Well, you better start believing it, because we've got plenty more to come," you giggled, pressing a kiss to his lips.
