Percy and I were on the couch watching TV. We weren't really paying attention to it though. At least I wasn't. I was staring at Percy. He caught me staring at him.
"Yeah?"
"Nothing." I said. He smiled and went back to staring slack-jawed at the screen. I smacked his shoulder.
"What?"
"Turn it off!" I exclaimed.
"Why? You said there was nothing!"
"Percy! I haven't been watching the movie at all! Can't you tell I want to talk to you?" I asked. It was kind of a ridiculous way to get his attention when I thought about it. Percy turned off the TV and put my feet on his lap.
"What do you want to talk about?" he asked.
"This baby." I said, gesturing to my stomach.
"Obviously. So this kid has three preschools they could go to. I think we should check them out and see which one we like the best."
"I already did a little bit of research."
"Of course you have." he said lovingly. "What did you find?"
"There's a preschool a few minutes away. I think we should pick that one because the kids who have gone there are early readers and speakers. And once our kid learns to walk we can walk there every day."
"That sounds amazing." Percy said. I realized that I had completely forgotten that Percy had an opinion too.
"I'm sorry."
"For what?"
"You're also the parent of this kid so you should get to choose too." I said. "You know what, we can book a tour and look at them together."
Percy took my hand and kissed it. "I'll be there for everything."
"You're going to be a great dad Percy. I know it. This baby is going to love you just as much as I do." I said.
Percy smiled. I knew how hard he would work for this kid. He would never let anyone harm them. I held Percy's hand. We were both nervous but somehow, we would do it. As long as we were together.
Suddenly, there was a blinding light in our living room. We put our hands up to our eyes until the light died down. Surprise it was my least favorite goddess, Hera.
"Hera?" Percy asked. "What are you doing here?"
Hera didn't respond to Percy. Instead, she looked around our home. She made a face but quickly hid it from us.
"What a quaint little home you have." she said. She made a face, as if she had sucked on a lemon.
"Thanks." I said without any real gratitude. I got up from the couch. "What brings you here?"
Hera glanced at my stomach. "I'm here to congratulate you." she said bitterly. "Motherhood is such a gift. I simply adore children."
"Didn't you throw Hephaestus off Mount Olympus?" Percy asked. I stifled my laughter. Hera gave a dry laugh.
"Water under the bridge Perseus." she turned to me. "Annabeth, you are truly lucky to have more happiness on top of your beautiful marriage."
I detected jealously in her voice.
I held Percy's hand. "Yeah, we truly are very happy."
"Allow me to give you some advice. Mother to mother. The kid is going to adore you and they're going to do whatever you show them. I would suggest getting rid of any negative influences before the baby is born."
