Chapter 8

" So where are we headed?" Oscar asks excitedly 

" Oh just somewhere for breakfast, Vix said so herself that their waffles are superb," I say driving down the back alleyway behind my house. I turn to the right heading towards the center of town. Then at the stoplight I turn the radio up on my car. It starts playing Say you won't let go by  back from the edge. I start bopping my head along with the beat and Oscar just listens. I continue driving and when the song is over we make it to the cafe.  I look up at the sign. Gloriosa cafe, this is the place Vix said. I park the car and then hop out and run over to Oscar's door and let him out. " Thanks Sordo," Oscar says and then plants a kiss on my cheek.

 I start to fluster. We're already showing affection in public! I shake off my embarrassment and head inside with Oscar. I look around, this place has a chill vibe and sense to it. I find the counter up near the front. I walk up to it and out from the bottom pops up a old man. He looks in his mid-sixties he's African American and he has this vibe to him. Reminds me of a scruffy grandpa. 

" What can I get you two this fine lovely morning?" The old man asks

" Well can I get some Green Tea with honey and a cinnamon bagel with extra cream cheese. Oscar what do you want?" I ask

" Well can I just get some waffles?" He asks

" Sure thing kids," He says

I start to take out my wallet to pay, but the old man stops me. " You don't need to pay have fun on your date, i'll bring your food out when it's ready," He says

I fluster a little bit. How did he know we were on a date? Did he see us outside the window. Then I feel Oscar grab my wrist and bring me over to a corner with bean bag chairs.  We both sit on the chairs with a little coffee table in front of us. I grab my headphones and connect them to my phone. I hand one of the headphones to Oscar and we listen to music while we wait for our food. After a few minutes my tea and bagel comes out. " Here,  your waffle's will be out in a few minutes, ok," The old man says

" Ok, thank you sir," Oscar says

How is he so kind and proper. I take a bite of my bagel and a sip of my tea. I go on my phone and start scrolling through Tik Tok.  Oscar leans on my shoulder and starts watching with me. Five minutes later the old man comes out with Oscar's waffles came out. I finish my bagel and tea while Oscar continues eating his waffles. He's slowly cutting the waffles and savoring the flavor. Why is it the little things that get me. Not his body or lust for him but the way he savors the way of food and the way he finds the good in everyone. Especially me.  He finishes his waffles and we just lean on each other and watch Tik Tok for a little while. I check the time, 10 a.m. Time for the next stop on the date. I grab Oscar's wrist and pull him up. " Where are we going?" Oscar asks.

" Were going someplace I know you'll love Oscar!" I say

I grab my wallet and leave a five dollar tip on the table. We then walk out of the cafe and to my car. I Oscar sits down in the passenger seat and I put the blindfold on him. I shut the door and and walk over to the driver's seat and start the car. I back out of the parking lot and head downtown. At the stoplight I connect my Bluetooth and put my personal playlist on shuffle. The first song is This December by Ricky Montgomery. Oscar starts to sing the song. " Only in my darkest moments can I see the light, I think i'm prone to getting blinded when it's bright,"

I then join in in the next lyrics. " We'll, this December, i'll remember, want you to see it as I do, Ohh, God know's I do," 

The light then turns green I pull forward and I turn to the right. We vibe for the rest of the song in silence. Just sitting in our company.  I then pull into the parking lot of our next destination. I get out and open the Oscar's door and take the blindfold off him. " Are we at a pool? But I don't know how to swim!" Oscar says
