We Are

Whether we know it or not
We're works of art
Magnificent but fragile
Abstract yet knowable
Wonders but solved
We feel with brain and heart
Or not at all

We live on edges or in shelters
We are ourselves or copies
We are meadows or lakes
And we tear and shake
Yet we're tall and strong
Sometimes nothing shocks us at all

But we're flesh and we bleed
We crash and tumble
Or crash and die
Because we are but humans who need to fight to survive.
