Lily POV

The funeral was lovely, but it still saddens me that someone young was murdered, let alone someone you know. I am walking back to the boarding house, luckily, that the funeral home was two blocks away. I was able to give Carter the slip before he spoke to me. I am still pissed that he lied to my face still. I have been answering Detective Sexy's messages, and he informed me that he told my father. After my father put him in a chokehold, he finally calmed down. Dominique even told him about me being Carter's Bride. Abby passed out from hearing that news. I had to take off my heels, since I don't want blisters the size of waffles by morning. Supernaturals like Amazons, even though they have fast healing and regenerative abilities, we don't heal as fast as the others. Ji-Ah and her hubby, Kif, had to go home to Soo-ah. I stayed behind to help clean.

As I am walking, I hear a scream from the street. I turn and see my co-worker Riseva being manhandled by some creep. The creep is an old vampire, I thank my lucky fucking stars that I don't have to hold back. I ran over to Riseva, I shouted her name and when the vampire turned around, threw my heel at his face. As the stiletto heel went into his eye, he let out a blood-curdling scream. I jumped in the air and dropped kicked him in the chest. "Lily, run. It's not safe," screamed Riseva. The succubi, who was 5 feet and looked like a beautiful doll with espresso-skinned that had been in a fight, was worried about me. I consider her another work friend, we talk a lot and even had drinks together.

The vampire jumped to his feet and tried to swing at me. I dodged his blow and snatched my heel from his eye, eyeball still stuck to my heel. He screamed and fell to the ground in agony. A werejaguar and a werehyena came towards us with cases of beer in their hands. The 6-foot tall werejaguar kicked the vampire in the face, knocking him out, while the 5'10 werehyena set his bounty of beer down to check on Riseva. "If you ever try to punch our mate again, I will hunt you down and kill you," the werejaguar with a Panamanian accent. Please let them be Riseva's mates, I prayed silently.

"I'm Jasen, and this is my roommate, Marco. We are your mates," said the werehyena, looking at me like a girl would look at a new pair of shoes. Marco, however, looked at me like a girl with PMS would look at junk food. Jasen is pretty, built like a swimmer, has alluring amber skin, brown eyes, and dark brown dreadlocks. Marco has a warrior's body, with dark chocolate skin, dark brown eyes, a shaven head, and a goatee. Marco is ruggedly handsome.

I texted Abby, Dominique, and Carter about what happened. Carter arrived in his sports car in two minutes, getting out of the car in seething anger. "Two shifters are staking claim to my Bride? Having to share her with a werecoyote was bad enough, but two more shifters?" snarled Carter.

Abby and Dominique showed up after 3 minutes, while "my guys" were glaring at each other. Abby rushes toward to give me a bear hug. He then grabs me by my shoulders, looks into my soul, and snarled, "Don't you ever do that again." Dominique rushes towards me to ask me if I am alright. After reassuring everyone that I was fine, Dominique placed the unconscious vampire in the trunk of his car, placed him in the trunk of the car and sped off. "I have a job opening for you if you want, but under a couple conditions," Carter told Jasen. Before I could hear anything, my father dragged me into his car, and took us to his place.
