Books used in: The Caged Bird, Our Starlight, My Little Songbird (Steven Universe fics)
First debute: The Caged Bird
Type: Creature
Changes made: appearance, biology and behavior
Why this was created:
And due to the story's theme, I wanted to get both sides in. If they were fish-like they'd spend too much time in the water. If they were bird-like they'd be mistaken as a harpy. So i decided to mix aqua and avian.

Apperance change includes:
● water proof avian wings that enable flight
● scaled digitgrade legs (like a lizard or bird) and scaled forearms with clawed fingers. (Webbed of course for swim speed)
● pointed, movable ears
● sharp teeth (similar to that of a shark's or piranha)
● gills on the neck
● sharp spines along the back that can raise and flatten (it is an uncommon trait)
● androgynous in appearance
● long sinewy tails with large fins at the ends that act like rudders in flight.

Biology changes include:
● they are born to a male aqua siren and female avian siren.
● they're hatched from eggs the mother lays, to which they will incubate for 35 days.
°These eggs are round and oval like a bird's egg, only they tend to have a blue-ish tint with scale like speckles dappled across it.
● they recognize their mothers and fathers through their voices, and imprint on a specific song they sing from which they can heard from within their eggs.
● after they hatch, they are toothless and will feed off the milk and regurgitated substances from the mother until they are weaned after 25 weeks.
° they have notably large appetites at this stage; they feed periodically for 12 to 14 hours a day.● baby sirens start out at the size of a guinea pig (in some cases, they start at hamster)
● they're born with semi-full awareness and sentience. (kind of like a horse foal)
● they can either live in solitude or in pods (which are occasionally led by a larger, stronger siren of course)
● they're hermaphroditic
● they have very resilient immune systems that can withstand almost any illnesses or strong poisons for extensive periods of time, but death is still a possibility if not treated immediately.
● the have extensive lifespans ranging from 300 to 500 years, but under the right conditions they can peek over 1,000 at times
● they're omnivores, but tend to prefer to eat more meat than plants. Or vice-versa. They can also consume milk from other animals [cows, goats] and a variety of human foods.
● extremely hot areas and extensive time away from sea air/water in general can get them very ill and weak
● they make a variety of noises, ranging from simple dolphin noises to clicks and whale noises to the crackles and trills of a parrot. Some say it's a mix of both dolphin and macaw.
● they're much more powerful than their aqua and avian counterparts, due to them being a literal mix of both. They manifest mana energy much quicker, which gives them the ability of elemental control (mainly hydrokinesis) and generates energy that can harm or levitate objects.
○ this also effects their voices, as when they sing, they emit a mist that nearly always smells of a sweet seabreeze, that varies in effects of the listener, depending on how the siren feels. (I.E. if the siren is happy, the listener will feel pleasant, but if the siren is upset, the listener will feel sluggish and depressed.) From there, they are at the siren's mercy; they can either lull them to sleep or just sing to them to lower their guard and leave them vulnerable to the siren's attack.
° if in a pinch, the siren eyes can glow and spiral like Kaa's, and staring directly into them will cause you to lose all external awareness and mental consciousness, like IT's deadlight effect. This essentially turns you into a puppet.
● they can live on land and in sea, but they choose to live underwater in underwater caves where they are well hidden.
Behavior includes:
● in contrast to their original counterparts, they are actually quite humble and polite, and rather friendly and quiet. There has been very few vain hybrid sirens. It is unknown as to where the humbleness had originated, but it is said that it stemmed from the mermaid and avian parents learning to set their differences aside.
° however, younger (baby-juvenile) sirens are more likely to contrast this, as they are more excitable and wiley at this age and will want to do things at their own accord.
° this is due to them having a lack of control over their developing power leading to copious amounts of energy.
● should a siren be wronged (I.E. treated poorly, betrayed, scorned, etc.) they will become incredibly spiteful towards the offender and hold extensive grudges. Forgiveness is a very slim possibility, but if the siren is close to said individual, then perhaps they'll find it in their hearts to forgive them, but still act aloof towards the offender.
° this is more likely to happen with younger sirens due to their sensitivity, but forgiveness from them is easier to obtain.● they are curious to a fault, which often leads them to the hands of humans without them trying.
● baby sirens tend to mimic those they've imprinted on, like parrots.
°also like parrots, they repeat words they say, at times almost mimicking their tone and pitch perfectly.Extra info:
● they originated from an avian siren falling in love with a merman. Therefore they are known as the "Hybrid Siren" or "Half-blood Sirens"
● they speak with "medieval" terms (milady, milord)
● they don't normally wear clothing (because where are you supposed to find any underwater or in trees) but will fashion pseudo clothes out of any material they get their hands on (I.E. standard seashell attire, plastic bags, or clothing left unattended)
● they are aware of what litter and plastic is, and harbor a bit of a resentment towards humans for it.
● they have crash ships before, but most of them were unintentional.
● they are on good terms with their aqua and avian counterparts, but there are a few bouts of envy towards them.
For the aqua: they're jealous that they're able to walk on land for indefinite amounts of time
And for the avian: they're jealous can swim in water without the worry of getting their feathers too wet.🧜♀️~~~~~~~~~~~~🧜♂️
