I woke up the next morning, and sighed knowing I had school again today. The sunlight shined through my window, basically blinding me. My Dad was long gone, so I had to get up myself instead of sleeping in, which I so badly wanted to do. I lazily got dressed like usual, but instantly changed my mind once I stepped outside in the freezing cold air. "God damnit..." I mumbled under my breath as my entire body became cold, I just wanted to climb back into bed and go to sleep. I stepped off the porch and started down the sidewalk. I heard the engine of a car in the distance, but it sounded as if they were slowing down "Excuse me?" I heard someone ask, I got confused and looked beside me seeing Arnie and some other kid inside that same blue Mustang "Hm?" I hummed stopping in my tracks "Would you want a ride? It's freezing out here today." He responded, Arnie looked like he wanted to say something to him, but stopped.
"I guess so." I answered, shrugging my shoulders. The back doors clicked open as I opened the back door and climbed inside, gently closing the door letting him know that he could start driving. "The name is Dennis by the way." He said "Hm, I'm Modesta." I responded "You must already have met Arnie, he's the one who told me about you in the first place." Dennis responded "Yeah." I said "You're new here, right?" He asked, "Yep." I answered. He turned a corner getting closer to the school "I could start picking you up, that is if you don't mind." Dennis responded "Oh, that'll be fine." I said. We finally reached the school after sitting in the car in an awkward silence. When I got out of the car, Dennis went his own way, while Arnie just looked awkward while trying to make it look like he wasn't following me. But it was hard since our lockers are right beside each other, and we both have the same class in the morning. While I was standing near my locker putting in my combination, some teenager that was in the same grade as me, who also looked like he was too old to even be in high school. He came up to Arnie, I gulped knowing this wasn't going to end well. He started saying some things about yesterday, so the reason why his glasses are broken was because he got into a fight with whoever this guy was, how is he even in school? I heard people saying he was suspended or expelled for having a knife on school property.
Arnie sounded like he was trying to defend himself, I really wanted to say something, but I was never good with bullies either. He left without harming him again, just threatening his life. Something about him telling the teacher about him having a knife "You alright?" I asked Arnie as the bully walked down the hallway "Yeah, I'm fine. Thanks for asking." He responded by fixing his glasses "Your welcome, I wish I could've said something." I answered while following him down the hallway to our first class "It's fine, I don't want you getting involved." He said, not wanting to upset Arnie, I decided it would be best if I just minded my own business. I made it to my first class with Arnie closely following behind me.
It was lunch and I was about to sit at one of the tables with my lunch "Hey." I heard someone say, I turned around and saw Dennis and Arnie holding bagged lunches "Yeah?" I asked "We were gonna sit on the bleachers and eat, wanna come?" He asked, I thought about the offer and thought it would be nice to not eat by myself. "Sure." I responded, shrugging my shoulders as I followed them outside. They climbed to the top and sat down on the cold metal bleachers, I sat beside them both. Arnie started talking about a car that he found yesterday afternoon after school. I was somewhat interested in "A car?" I asked, Arnie took his attention to me "Yeah, I found this really nice antique car from the 50s!" He said "Oh my god, that sounds amazing." Dennis looked upset that I was agreeing with Arnie, which I didn't understand why. "You should come to Darnell's Garage after school so I can show you." He answered "I would love to, what kind of car is it?" I asked, "A Plymouth Fury." He said "Those are literally my dream car." I responded, Arnie looked so happy from how interested I was about his new car.
"Arnie, like I said. You could find a car better than that, it'll be expensive to fix up." Dennis responded as he took a bite out of his sandwich "But it'll be worth it." I answered for Arnie "Exactly." Arnie said "Why are you on his side Modesta?" Dennis asked, "Because Plymouths' are my dream car." I answered "Could you drop us both off at Darnell's Garage after school, please Dennis?" Arnie asked, "Fine." Dennis replied "Thanks!" He said, I laughed a bit at his reaction. We all continued eating our lunch, talking about other things besides Arnie's new car.
All 3 of us were walking to Dennis's car, while me and Arnie walked beside each other talking about old cars. Even if that bully saw me hanging out with Arnie, I didn't really care, because just because he doesn't like him, doesn't mean that I don't have to like him. He was pretty cool if you got to know them, I'm honestly glad I moved here. I climbed into the back seat while Arnie got into the passenger seat, my heart was beating with excitement, I'd finally be able to see a close up of my dream car! This was amazing. Dennis pulled out of the school parking lot and started driving. I hope my Dad won't mind me staying there, but I most likely won't be home by the time he gets home, just because he gets home 30 minutes after I do. He pulled into a place that looked like a junkyard, where a sign read 'Darnell's Do-It-Yourself Garage.' The place looked extremely old.
He stopped in front of the large metal doors and honked his horn, a few seconds later and the huge doors opened. I quickly grabbed my bag and opened the passenger door and waved Dennis bye as I followed Arnie inside. Dennis drove off as soon as the giant doors closed "Oh damn, I'm so excited." I responded following behind Arnie "Everyone thinks she's ugly." He said "She?" I asked confused, "Oh, right, her name is Christine. I know it sounds weird." He responded nervously "Nah, that's fine. Christine is a pretty name anyways." I stopped in my tracks when my eyes landed on the beautiful car, she was still in bad shape, but I still loved her no matter what. "She looks amazing even in that condition." I responded slowly walking over to her "Yeah, I'm using all my saved college money to fix her." He said walking over to an old wooden table that was scattered with tools.
"What could I do to help? I mean, I don't know a lot when it comes to cars." I said nervously as he looked through the box of tools "You're fine, you can just watch." Arnie answered, I nodded and pulled my radio out of my bag. "You brought a whole radio?" He asked, laughing "Yup." I answered and turned it on and started playing 'Little Bitty Pretty One.' I tried my hardest not to literally start dancing because of how good this song was. "Oh, that's a nice song." He responded "I know." I answered "But don't turn it up too loud, I don't think Darnell would let you play music." Arnie replied "Sad." I said turning down my radio. I watched as he worked on her tires, he was so skilled with his hands, he must've taken an automotive class or something. My phone rang, I looked at the number and saw it was my Dad "Shit, my Dad's calling." I said, "Hello?" I asked "Where the hell are you?" His voice emitted from the phone "I'm at Darnell's Garage with my new friend." I responded, I noticed the smile on Arnie's face when I mentioned that he was my friend. "Darnell's garage?" He asked, confused. "It's a do-it-yourself garage, he's fixing up his car." I answered "Alright, be back soon." He replied "Okay." I responded by hanging up the phone.
After staying longer than my Dad would've wanted me to, I decided to say goodnight to Arnie and leave. He wanted to stay longer so he could work on Christine, which I understood because if I were him, I'd want to be able to drive her pretty soon. I got into my Dad's car "What's his name?" He asked, referring to my friend "Arnie." I answered, "That's nice, glad you already have a friend." My Dad replied as he left the junkyard and headed home.
Last day of school this week because of Thanksgiving, but I am LOVING how this story is turning out. Google docs has really been helping with my grammar and sentences, so expect less spelling errors. I'm getting more obsessed with Christine, which is bad because I might stop liking TF2. Anyways, next chapter it is!
