22: The Day They All Died
That night, I had a dream.
And I'm not talking about the ABBA song.
In the dream, I was watching myself sleep. But it wasn't me. I had dark hair, greener eyes and was wearing a light green tunic dress thing, instead of I Love Puppies pyjamas. I wasn't in my bed, either, because the bedspread was fur, and I'd never have fur. I- or whoever it was- wasn't in the tower. Their bed was in a small room in a wooden house. Not my house, though.
She was, however, wearing my medallion.
A boy- about eighteen years old — ran in.
"Hephzibah!" He shouted. "Wake up!"
...Hephzibah?
Hephzibah groaned, and rolled over.
The boy had reached the bed, and was shaking her vigorously. "Hephzibah, you need to wake up."
"Go away, Mur." She mumbled.
"It's Aodh." He said.
Hephzibah instantly snapped to attention and sat up. She scrambled out of bed, just as the stench of smoke filled the room.
"I'm only wearing this." She looked down at her clothes. "I really ought to be wearing something slightly more... fire-proof."
Mur smiled. "It's fine. You still look beautiful."
Together, Hephzibah and Mur ran out of the room.
The image changed.
Now, Hephzibah and Mur were running through a forest. And the forest was on fire. The trees were lit up with amber flames. A huge bough collapsed, broke off a tree and shrivelled up. Mur pulled Hephzibah out of the way just in time.
Suddenly, Hephzibah stopped at a clearing by a stream. "But this is where..."
Mur halted. "I know." He said sadly.
"How could he?"
There was a sickening crack as another tree doubled over and fell down in defeat. Smoke rose in triumph.
