#10 Newt (Maze Runner)

You first met newt in the glade, he was the one to get you out of the box and asked Alby if he can give you the tour, since day 1 you were attached to the hip. your friendship slowly developing into stolen glances from across the glade then to holding hands while taking a long late walk through the forest. everyone started teasing you about it, making comments about you being together "your girlfriend's coming newtie" frypan nudged "for the millionth time, she's not my girlfriend. and stop calling me newtie" newt's nose scrunched at fry's attempt, suddenly it was like the whole world stopped the only thing left was you and him, your smile lit up the glade, he couldn't help but imagine a future with you, finally escaping from this cage and living a normal life with you but he was brought back to reality by a soft voice

"Hi newtie" you leaned in to kiss his cheek, sitting down on the log next to him

"Hi fry, what's up with you two?" you quizzed with a frown on your face seeing them so disoriented "nothing just, newtie, here is being a wimp about telling someone the truth" fry snickered as newt's eyes widen, he's fucked now, no way out. it like 2 hunters and he's the prey "telling who, what?" you gave him a skeptical glare "wha-nothing he 's just joking, right fry?" he secretly shoved fry with his foot "no actually I'm not, oh look it's late I gotta go make the food, good luck" fry patted newt on the back and ran away from the scene. newt cursed fry in his head

"So? I'm your best friend and you keep secrets from me?" ouch, newt felt his heart drop at the word best friend, fearing that he will get rejected because you only see him as a close friend and nothing else. you cleared your throat waiting for him to let it out already "meet me at our spot tonight and I'll tell you then, alright?" you nodded as he got up and walked into the garden, you watched him leave and wondered what he was gonna tell you, it sounds important after all he wants to be alone. however you couldn't help but smile, what if he was confessing his feelings? a blush crept onto your cheeks just by thinking about it, but guess we have to wait till tonight, you whispered to yourself getting up to do your work as a medjack.

You sat down at the bottom of the biggest tree in the glade, waiting for Newt to show up, after minutes of waiting you heard steps approaching "finnaly you're here, I thought for a second you were gonna ditch me" you giggled as he sat down next to you, a smile creeping onto his face hearing your laugh, like music to his ears "I would never" he eyed as you scooted closer, the way your eyes sparkle into the light of the moon, your feet kicking each other as the loud silence took over the forest "so, what's your secret, is it a crush?" you raised your eyebrows "maybe yes, maybe no" he taunted shoving you with his elbow "tell me you know I hate when you keep me on the edge" he turned his whole body towards you, following his actions you placed your chin on your palm peeking at him trough your lashes "I don't know how to tell you this might ruin our friendship forever" of course, friendship, you assumed disappointed that you weren't anything more "just say it already"

Silence took over again, his eyes dropping to the ground, you sighed seeing him so, afraid, afraid of what? you thought you decided to break the ice and speak up "omg just tell me" bringing your hand up to his chin to make him look at you, his eyes fixated on yours, never once breaking the gaze, his head slowly shook from side to side "I'm so in love with you darling"

He said it, he can't believe he said it, but his relief of taking it off his chest soon turned into worry as he saw you break the eye contact, looking down at your lap "newt-" "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have said anything I just ruined everyth-" you cut off his bullshit by smashing your lips onto his. arms reaching for his hair slowly pulling on his locks, finally getting what you dreamed of since day 1, his hands encircling around the back of your neck pulling your faces closer, you moved to settle on his lap, never daring to break the kiss as if it would be the last one ever, fearing that this was all a dream and waking up in your hammock by yourself. his hands running down your spine but the contact was broken to regain your breath "holy shit" newt laughed, soon joining him "does that mean you like me too?" newt had hope in his eyes, peering deeply into yours "i don't like you newt"
