Rock Paper Scissors

Once again we carried on with life, occasionally chatting via insta dms. Assignments were no joke. Even if we were still just in our first year. And unfortunately, I'm a terrible procrastinator, so I often found myself doing things last minute.

One day, as I was on my way home after classes and some extra assignment work/ study time, I met him right outside the uni library. He had been chatting to a friend about going to the mall to hang.

"Where are you going?"

"Home. I'm done for the day."

"Rock Paper Scissors. I win you stay longer and come to the mall with us. You win, and you get to go home now."

I lost. And I waited. We all piled into his friend Tan's car. "We" being me, him and several of his friends. I felt awkward cause, well, I didn't really know any of them, let alone him.

He offered to buy me a coffee at the café I liked. And we spent the next while talking about our lives, family and such.

Now, looking back, that game of rock paper scissors and that coffee were really the start of everything. I don't know why, but I just agreed to each of his silly suggestions or entreaties... idk what to call them..

After that day, we ended up exchanging phone numbers. We started hanging out a little more at school (uni) after classes. I, who used to run home after classes, started staying longer and longer.

One such day, we were sitting outside the student house while the Music Society, which included his bestie and housemate- the cutey from chapter 1 (Skids), were rehearsing for a coming Christmas carol event that the uni was organising.

Please take into consideration that it'd actually only been 3 months since I had started uni at this point. Except for my girl friends, classmates, and this idiot I didn't really know anyone.

As we sat there chatting, I mentioned that I have a "history" of singing in my high school and church choirs. And that listening to the rehearsal, I was seriously annoyed by how off pitch it all sounded.

"Just go to them and show them how it should be done."

"No man! How could I? That's just plain rude!"

"Just go. I'm sure they'll appreciate the help of a pro!" (I must add that he said this cheekily)

"Pfft.. who talked about a pro here." TSK!"

I ended up going up to them and was eventually roped into singing for the event too! How unfortunate! Luckily through this episode I met a new friend, Sally, who later became a very important person in my life.

I don't remember much about the actual performance, just that it was quite a catastrophe lol, but I still enjoyed it, I guess, as it was the first event I participated in. Also, if I'm not mistaken, he met my sister then. She came to help me carry my stuff when my parents came to get me. And he had to play a stupid trick on us and locked us up in a room. Silly boy.

Life continued and my memory seems to have blurred out those days. I suppose it was just good old classes, assignments, and hanging with friends on campus. I got to know Skids a little better. Fantastic guy!! Absolutely love him till this day. Such a great friend.
