"Sweetheart why don't you invite your friends over tonight, i could make them that Spanish dish from my book." My mother said as I walked down the stairs ready do go out whenever i got a text. "Because mum, they're not fans of Spanish food. Plus theres no way in hell my friends are seeing my mother in her yoga clothes." I say back evidently not giving a fuck.
-------------------
Lacey: Ok. I need to get out before my mum decides to throw another dinner party. Who's at the lake?
Michael: I'll be there in an hour with Calum and Ellie.
Luke: Ashton's already there but his phone died. Lol.
Cara: I'll be there at 8.
------------------
"Come on sweetie, it would be fun!" She smiled. I love my mother, i really do, but my friends around a dinner table with my mother and my father wouldn't be the best idea. It would be too awkward. "Would you rather i lied and told you they didn't like Mexican food?" I said slipping on my shoes. "Spanish food Lacey! Spanish!" She said shaking her head. "Look mum, i promise maybe one day i'll invite them over for food." I smile kissing her cheek. "Bye mum."
Once again the walk to the lake wasn't very long, to say it was 6pm the sun was pretty bright, and it was still pretty warm. The gates to the lake near my house were always locked, meaning every single time i wanted to get to the lake i culd either climb the gate or, walk the extra 10 minutes to the other gate. I think i'd rather do this option. I climbed onto the power box that was next to the fence and threw the backpack over it, the next think for me to do was for me to get over the gate without adding another cut or bruise to the collection. I put my foot through one of the gaps and my other foot over the top of the fence so i was kinda sat on it. It would be much easier if i could show you, but thats impossible. Anyway, with swift movement practice, i'm not capable of swinging my other leg over and pushing myself off the fence, usually landing on my feet, but sometimes on my ass. However this time i landed on my feet. "Fuck yeah!" I muttered with a triumphant smile on my face. I walked forward swinging my arm down to grab the backpack strap as i did so.
"Sell the kids for food." I whisper-sang to myself as i walked towards the truck, humming the rest of the song as i got closer. Ashton's mop head could be seen a mile away with a red bandana tied around it like always. "Good afternoon ass-hole" I chirped, climbing onto the open back of the truck, and pulling myself onto the roof. "Like a little monkey me. Should have seen me jump the fence back there." I laughed. Ashton turned to face me, a lopsided grin on his face, also a small laugh exiting his mouth. "What you doing here so early?" He asked moving back on the roof a little.
"Mum wanted everyone to come around for Spanish food. I asked if anyone was here and Luke said your phone had died." I said sitting my bum next to his. "Very true, i thought i'd come sit here for a while, while its light." He smiled. Our conversation drifted to the beauty of the lake, although that didn't last long. "I could have sworn i saw Keegan's car on my way here today." I muttered. Another laugh left Ashton's mouth. "He's probably stalking you," He laughed looking behind us, towards the fence.
"I wouldn't be surprised." I muttered crossing my legs. "Did you know Cara and Calum are seeing each other now? Calum asked me to drop her off at his house with him." Ashton said wiggling his eyebrows. It's weird knowing I'm the only one out of my friends to not have a boyfriend, except I know they aren't officially together but yeah. Im the only one who's completely alone now.
"Is that a good thing?" I asked. He looked at me for a moment, and a smile appeared on his face. He slung his arm around my shoulder and pulled me into his side. "Can you Lacey Chapman keep a secret?" He whispered. I knitted my eyebrows in confusion and nodded. "Well yeah." I whispered back. "Calum's liked Cara for a little while now. So when Keegan was here, I have him a kick up the ass and told him to grab her before Keegan did." He said a smile on his face.
"Aren't you such a good friend? I mean you even helped me." I laughed. "We've been through this, don't pretend you didn't enjoy holding my hand." He said confidently. "Mhm whatever." I rolled my eyes. "Didn't deny it though." He said flicking my ear. "You clearly enjoyed it!" I giggled watching his cheeks go a little pink as he shrugged. "I just like holding hands" he mumbled taking his arm from around me and putting it back by his side. "Has Mr. Ashton Irwin gone shy?" I said nudging him. I held out my hand in front of him. I'm not too sure why, but i quite liked holding his hand yesterday, it was nice. "What?" He asked looking at my hand. "You said you like holding hands." I wiggled my fingers lightly and he chuckled raising his hand to just underneath mine. His fingers slid through the gaps in mine, just like the night before and wrapped around my hand. He lowered our hands into the space between us. "I really do like holding your hand." He mumbled squeezing my hand slightly.
Hand holding is a form of physical intimacy. Involving two or more people it may or may not be romantic.
Ashton's hand was warm, and soft, something which i found pretty nice. Not much could be said about how i felt holding Ashton's hand but the moment he pulled his hand away from when everyone else arrived later that night my hand went cold. The heat from his hand was keeping mine warm and each time he squeezed it, my brain seemed to wake up and bring me out of my little day dreams although not much was said between us. Everyone joined us, and as usual conversation between me and Ashton was minimal, although everyone else was engrosed in their own conversations anyway. I slid off the hood roof of the truck leaving my backpck with Ashton, I knew Luke probably knew Ashton better than the other boys, so i thought maybe i could ask him a few things about him.
"Luke, can i talk to you?" I asked not really bothering to listen in the conversation that everyone was having. He nodded at me let go of Ellie's hand walking with me towards the pier sitting on the edge. "Are you ok?" He asked watching me swing my legs. "Yeah, i was just wondering why Ashton's so..i don't know, one minute he's cocky, then his whole mood changes and he's shy." Luke shrugged. "He's just like that, he tends to keep himself to himself, why whats up?" I contemplated whether it was a good idea to tell Luke or not, i mean i didn't know whether he'd go straight to Ellie and tell her everything, because then i knew she'd tell Cara, who would tell Calum, who would then tell Michael and then Ashton would find out i was talking about him. But oh well. I told him anyway.
I told him about Keegan and how Ashton held my hand while Keegan didn't leave me alone, and then i told him about this afternoon, how he told me he liked holding hands, but how he liked holding my hand and gladly held it again before everyone came, but as soon as everyone got here he let go. "You got to understand, Ashton is a shy guy. He doesn't like people talking, if we saw you guys earlier, he knows Michael and Calum would have gone up the wall, as well as Ellie and Cara. He just doesn't like people talking about his stuff. He's not shy, he's just private." I nodded slightly and got up. "Thanks Luke." I smiled patting his head.
1 New Message; Ashton Irwin
Ashton: What you looking at hm?
Lacey: Not you.
Ashton: I'm hurt, i thought you were looking at me. I'm wonderful.
Lacey: I'm looking at a mophead ass-hole.
Ashton: Damn you harsh.
Ashton: Come sit with me?
Lacey: You're too needy.
Ashton: I enjoy your company more than Calums. So come sit.
Lacey: Aye-aye Captain.
