Elias still found the sight of Allegra curled up in his arms while they watched the movie to be unbelievable. Yet there he was, laying on the couch, watching some strange old movie that she claimed was "a classic", with his arms wrapped around her waist. He felt like he had to be dreaming, and it was about time someone woke him up.
"Are you even paying attention?"
Ally's voice brought him back to the moment, and he gave a bashful smile. "I'll admit, I spaced out for a while there. What is that character doing again?"
She sighed dramatically and shifted so she was facing him with her legs over his lap. "Alright, since you clearly aren't in the mood for a movie, what do you want to do?"
"Well," Elias said with a cheeky grin, his eyes roaming down, "I can think of a thing or two."
"No, no no," Ally chided with a click of her tongue and used a finger on his chin to tilt his head back up to face her. "Eyes up here, thank you. We agreed that we should spend the day just relaxing and spending quality time together. Quality time."
"I mean, I think that counts as quality time..."
"It does not," Ally pouted and looked away dramatically. "I mean, I know we're mates and all, but really we hardly know each other. Do you even know what my comfort food is?"
"Hmm... you strike me as an ice-cream kind of girl."
"Lucky guess. What about my favourite season?"
"Winter? You get to wear hoodies and uggs. Comfy clothes above all else."
Ally looked back at him with a frown, "Are you actually a psychic?"
Elias laughed and poked her forehead crease. "No, you're just easy to guess. You try me then. Comfort food and favourite season?"
"Well," she pouted as she thought about her answer, tapping her chin with her finger, "you seem like a pasta kind of guy, and autumn. Not too hot, not too cold."
"Actually, my comfort food is chicken and sweet corn soup, and my favourite season is spring, but at least your reasoning was right, so don't feel too bad. It was a fifty-fifty chance."
"Damn it! Okay fine, how about two truths and a lie?"
Elias cocked an eyebrow, "What's that?"
Ally just gaped at him. "What do you mean, 'what's that'? You're joking right?"
"Afraid not."
She snorted in an attempt not to laugh. "Sorry, sorry. Uh, so you say three facts about yourself, but like the game is called, two of them are true and one is a lie. The other person has to guess which one is the lie! Don't make it obvious either, that defeats the purpose."
Elias nodded, "Right, right. So for example," he raised a finger with each statement, "first, I've never broken a bone before. Second, I failed my first year of medical school. Third, I'm scared of swimming in deep water."
Ally considered all three answers. "The lie has to be the second one, right?"
"Nope."
"Third?"
"Also no."
"Wait, really?" Ally chuckled, "You really did fail first year med, and you're scared of deep water?"
Elias nodded, his ears burning. "I totally bombed my first year of medicine. I slacked off and got cocky, and it came back to bite me hard. They let me repeat though after I submitted a lengthy letter explaining myself and justifying why they should keep me in the programme. The deep water thing comes from an experience when I was small and nearly drowned. I just prefer to know that my head will be able to easily get above the water if I stand on the ground. I was lucky my dad was watching vigilantly and saved me."
