Carter
After school

"Hey, Carter."

"Hey, bro."

"What's going on y'all? Sorry, I'm late." I spoke, texting Kai in one hand, grabbing the chair to sit down with the other.

"Is everything okay?" They went on asking, making me chuckle to myself as I got myself together, putting my phone away.

"Yeah, I'm good."

"Just a lot going on right now." I admitted to them as they both looked at me with smiles.

I'd just left my meeting with the dean and he'd given me more information about my grades so far and it was looking like I was going to be valedictorian for graduation. I just had to stay on my game for the next few months until commencement.

"I hope it's good things?" K went on saying and I nodded surely, not wanting to talk to much about it yet.

I wasn't trying to spoil it for myself.

"So..."

"What about you and Kai?" Ferrow went on saying wigging her eyebrows and I smirked to myself, looking down.

"Long story." Was all I said, giving her a look.

"Oh trust me, I know." She nudged me.

"I heard you're taking her out again tonight?"

"Yeah, I'm trying." I raised my eyebrows in hope.

Kai had finally texted me, allowing me to have her number and I was making plans with her so I could see her tonight after she got off work.

"Hopefully, I can get her out."

"Your sister is.." I trailed off with a look, making them both laugh.

"Work, man."

"She's a job. Full time." I couldn't help but to say as they howled laughing at me but I was dead serious.

"Oh please, boys are the same way though." K went on saying and I jolted my head back.

"Ah, I don't know about that." I disagreed, licking my lips.

Women were a different breed and extremely hard to understand. Especially this woman.

The one I wanted.

"You'll get it right though, you have a lot of patience and my sister's not used to that."

"That's why she's still talking to you, trust me." Ferrow dropped some knowledge on me and I took in what she said.

It had to be true because Kai was still engaging in me even though she acted as if she didn't want to. I knew in the back of my mind that she was just scared. She'd told me she'd been hurt before plus I'd just hurt her in a different way two days ago so I had to understand her.

I just wanted a chance to show her that I was different.

I wanted to try this with her.

"She'll come around though, us girl are just cautious." K spoke up as they both nodded.

"Yeah.."

"We'll see." I shrugged it off.

"So where did you take her last night?"

"Right, I wanted to know too. She only told me bits and pieces." Ferrow butted in.

"Oh, I figured she would've told everything.." I trailed off, pulling out the pictures.
