"Oh, look at all the pretties," I drawled with a smile coming to my face as I entered the weapons room. All around me were different types of firearms that gleamed as the light bounced off the metal of the barrels.

Behind me I heard Steve sigh at my comment and reaction. "Can you please stop talking about assault rifles the same way you do about shoes?" I shot a glare back to him as I approached one of the walls of weapons.

It had only been a few weeks ago when both Steve and Tony had showed up at my apartment. How they found me I have no clue other than that Stark is a genius. I made sure I stayed under the radar but an unfortunate mistake had revealed myself to the Avengers. That mistake led to Steve and Tony coming to recruit me before the US Government could lock me away for the "public's best interest".

"Don't judge me for my fascinations Mr. Stars and Stripes. Just keep in mind I can make a head shot from over two thousand meters away Rogers," I smirked as I picked up a beautiful Barrett M82 from the wall to inspect. "I'm as deadly as I am beautiful," I shrugged with a grin, placing the gun back in it's spot.

"And that's why I like you the most," Natasha's voice sounded from the doorway of the armory room we were in. As she made her way into the room I blew her a kiss and winked at her. The action making Steve roll his eyes and sigh loudly in annoyance.

I hadn't been at the compound long but Natasha was the one I bonded with the quickest. We bonded over our skills that deemed us deadly assassins and commiserating over the sexist men we worked for in the past. She was like the older sister I never had and I definitely appreciated her kindness.

"The thought of the two of you working together is absolutely terrifying," Steve mumbled before walking out of the room.

It was late and I hadn't had any luck falling asleep. To be honest I didn't sleep much anymore anyway, not since the mistake that put me on the Avengers radar. There were too many times I had woken up in a cold sweat due to nightmares. So when I found sleep evading me I would make my way to either the training rooms or the library. Tonight I chose the library since I didn't have the energy to work out.

I pushed open the door as quietly as I could, just enough for me to slip inside and close it once more. Once I was quietly inside I walked along the walls in the shadows. Not because I was hiding, but it was a force of habit. I was more comfortable being unseen on the outskirt of things, just lingering in the shadows before I myself became one. It helped my anonymity, gave me a bit of security, and allowed me to remain unnoticed. At least most of the time.

"Still hiding in the shadows I see," the familiar voice drawled, snapping my attention to him. Of course it would be my luck to run into Loki of all people in the middle of the night here.

I rolled my eyes despite his ability to see my face. He annoyed me to no end and seemed to take pleasure in it. "You're one to talk prince of darkness," I responded in the same tone, a smirk plastered to my face as I emerged from the shadows.

I approached him with calculated caution. I knew about New York, but aside from the mind control I knew he was powerful and wouldn't make a mistake of underestimating someone like him. A strong and powerful god who had barely given us a preview of what he could do when he first came to New York.

It wasn't lost on me though that he was insanely attractive. He was a god, even Thor was at the same level being a god as well. Though I found myself more drawn to the younger of the two. I had no imaginary notions of him ever reciprocating the attraction regardless of how nice he was to look at.

"Do you maintain old habits out of comfort or fear," he questioned, smirking back at me. The question made me narrow my eyes at him. He knew nothing about me. Let alone why I kept in the darkness. "Though I suppose those could be one in the same."

"You don't scare me Loki."

At my statement Loki rose from the chair he was reading in and walked over to where I was standing. I fought the urge to step back and put more space between us. I knew he was trying to see how far he could push my limits. It was no secret that I kept myself at least two feet physically from anyone else. I never explained it to anyone why I did that, they respected my need for space. No one had challenged it, at least not until now.

"I never said I was trying to scare you, though you should fear me," he drawled leaning in closer. There was a mischievous glint in his eye that told me he knew exactly what he was doing. I refused to give him the reaction he sought for, standing my ground.

I narrowed my eyes and took a step towards him. The action required me to tilt my head back more to see his face with his towering frame. I may be small, but that was why so many underestimated me. "Just keep in mind, underestimating me would be a mistake, a deadly one," I warned in a dangerous tone.

As I stood there with him watching me I could feel my heart rate rise. I wasn't one for direct threats, I liked to be nameless. To be faceless. It instilled more fear into my enemies. I knew though if I wanted any bit of respect from Loki I would have to stand my ground, otherwise he would torment me even worse with his mischief.

"You're a feisty little one," was Loki's only response before he stepped away and walked toward the exit.

With Loki gone and now that I was alone in the library I went to search for a book. That had been one of the most bizarre encounters I had possibly ever had with the Asgardian prince.

I woke up and immediately recognized I was not in my own bed. The sun glaring through the windows of the library had finally reached my poor eyelids. I sat up on the couch and found the book I had been reading lying on the floor. There was also a pillow where my head had been lying and a blanket draped over me that I certainly knew I didn't bring with me.

Groggily I rubbed the sleep from my eyes and took in my surroundings. I didn't see anyone else and I hadn't heard anyone come in while I was reading. I had no clue where the pillow and blanket came from until I spotted a note on the coffee table. When I picked it up I saw a quick note scrawled in beautiful cursive.

"I came back and you were asleep. I summoned you a pillow and a blanket, you looked dreadfully uncomfortable. Try to make it back to your room next time so others can make use of the space as well.

-Loki"

After reading the note I let out an undignified snort. Of course he would find a way to annoy me even when he was doing something nice. I looked back to the pillow which was honestly very comfortable, and grabbed the blanket as well. I knew I could get a few more hours of sleep before I really needed to be awake.
