So, when I was writing this short bit of fluff, I was listening to "Say You Won't Let Go" by James Arthur. The song title is the title of this short drabble since it was inspired by that song.
Driving your car down the highway you thought about everything that happened. You had left the Avengers compound in a fit of rage. You had needed to put space between you and the thing that had caused the rage to erupt in you like a volcano. You had to get away from Loki, otherwise you would kill him yourself.
It wasn't all that long ago that Thor had told you Loki had been killed by Thanos. Your world had come crashing down with the news. Then you put that world back together over time. At least a world you could manage in after having Loki ripped away from you. Leaving you alone.
Then he just appeared through some glowing door, alive. It should have been impossible, yet there he was. You had gone from shock, to disbelief, to all outrage in a matter of moments. You had stormed out of the compound and jumped into one of the cars, speeding away.
After what could have been hours you finally pulled the car into a parking area. Looking around you saw that you had driven to the coast. The ocean had always been your comfort growing up, and it still was. You climbed out of the car and made your way to the sand, removing your shoes as you reached the beach.
You had wandered out to the water's edge at the shoreline of the beach. Allowing the waves to push over your feet as you walked in the sand. The sounds of the waves calming your anger. As you walked you felt something wet on your face. Reaching up you felt the tears that had begun running down your face.
You didn't want to cry. You had already cried so much over him. You should be happy he was there and alive. Though it just brought you anger after all the hurt you had been through. Losing Loki had felt like your heart had been ripped from your chest. You had put all that hurt into the final battle with Thanos as well. You had helped Wanda rip the mad titan limb from limb since he had taken love from the both of you.
As you continued to walk along the shore you felt a presence behind you. It made the hair on the back of your neck stand on end and goosebumps to rise on your skin. He had found where you ran to. Loki had found you.
"Aislynn, please wait," Loki cried running after you. As he got closer you could see the tears on his face as well. "Please just, give me a moment to explain all of this love," he whispered, grabbing your face in his hands.
"You're supposed to be DEAD," you screamed as the tears came stronger. "Thor told me he watched Thanos KILL YOU. I MOURNED you. I-I-I..." you stuttered as you were overcome with emotion.
"Look, Aislynn I know. I know I'm technically dead in this timeline. Though the rules don't matter anymore. There's something worse than Thanos. I came back so I can protect you. I've seen what my life was on this timeline. I just can't let anything happen to you," Loki explained, leaning down to press his forehead to yours.
"I'm sorry for everything darling. I'm sorry for hurting you, for running away from how I feel about you. I'm so, so sorry love," he finished with a whisper as he pressed his lips against your forehead.
You looked up at him with tears still in your eyes. "Don't you dare leave me again," you whispered, grabbing his collar, and pulling him down to press your lips to his.
You felt Loki's arms wrap around your waist. You gave in wrapping your arms around his waist as well. Holding on to him in a tight grip. You were terrified if you let go that he'd disappear again. Then everything you had been through would begin again.
"P-please, don't l-leave me again," you trembled as Loki held you in his arms. He placed a gentle kiss on your head, holding you flush against him.
"I never wanted to leave you," he began with a whisper. "I was just too blind. Everything I've gone through since I left this timeline made me realize one thing. It made me realize how much I need you. I'm never letting you go again."
