It was a quiet day at the compound and Loki had wandered into the living room looking for Thor. He figured he could ask his brother to spar with him to pass the time. With most everyone gone that day there wasn't much mischief to be had and he needed a distraction from his boredom.
Upon entering the living room Loki spotted Arianna, Pepper's niece, asleep on the couch. Loki couldn't help but chuckle at the small woman sprawled out on the couch. She had one leg hanging off with her foot on the floor, one arm was laid across her face, and her mouth was just slightly open letting out soft snores.
Ever since Loki had come to Earth with Thor, he had taken a liking to Arianna. She was sweet and kind until you upset her. Once she was mad, she was a fiery and feisty woman. It baffled him how such a tiny woman could be as fearless when it came to those she cared about. He would admit that Arianna was downright intimidating when she was angry.
As Loki stood watching Arianna sleep Thor approached him with a grin. The God of Thunder knew that his brother held affection for the small woman that was currently sleeping. While most wouldn't see it, Thor knew his brother well enough to know when he had feelings for a woman. Spending the last thousand years together with him made him privy to the intricate details of his brother's behavior confirming his attraction to Arianna.
When Loki heard his brother approaching him, he turned to see him and the knowing grin on his face. Shaking his head, he rolled his eyes at his brother's expression. For weeks now Thor had been pestering him about Arianna, insisting that he needed to ask her on a date. Each time Loki would brush Thor off and deny any attraction to the small blonde woman.
"When are you going to stop lying to, of all people, yourself with how you feel about her," Thor said quietly not wanting to wake Arianna. The question earned him a glare from Loki as Thor kept his annoying grin on his face as he looked back at Loki.
Loki shook his head and crossed his arms over his chest before he glanced back at Arianna. "I've told you brother, I have no clue as to what you are referring to," Loki whispered in an attempt to have Thor leave him alone on the subject.
"I know you to well. I see how you look at her," Thor began while Loki stared straight ahead keeping a neutral expression. "I understand your reservations, I went through the same with Jane before we broke up. She's an amazing and beautiful woman, who I'm fairly certain returns your sentiment. You'd be a fool to let a woman like that just pass you by."
Loki pondered Thor's words for a moment. There was more to Arianna than her physical beauty that drew him to her. She was also intelligent, quick witted, and she was kind to everyone unless they gave her a viable reason to just be cordial. There were only a handful of times he had actually seen her angry.
When they first arrived on Earth, she didn't judge him for what had happened the last time he was on the planet. As Thor has explained to him, she worked as a liaison between S.H.I.E.L.D and the Avengers so she had files on everyone, including Loki and the mind control by Thanos. According to Thor she knew everything that S.H.I.E.L.D did about the group of hero's and himself.
Her kindness on the first day they had met surprised him. She approached him with a large smile and hugged him when they were introduced. Loki couldn't remember the last time someone other than Thor had hugged him since their mother died. That small action had set forth him pining after her for the last six months.
"Say you are right brother, what then," Loki questioned Thor finally turning back to him.
The smile on Thor's face grew at his brother's words. "Take her to dinner or something. I'm sure you can figure out something," Thor chuckled at his brother's apprehension.
A small smile ghosted across Loki's face as he looked back to ensure Arianna was still sleeping. "Now, can you explain to me how a human girl could who's asleep with her mouth open be so cute," Loki asked turning to Thor with a small smirk on his face.
"They have a way of doing that, I can't explain how," Thor smiled at Loki before leaving him alone with a sleeping Arianna again.
Before Loki could turn to leave the room, he heard Arianna stir a bit. He watched as she moved her arm and looked over at him with a small smile on her face. He had no idea how long she had been awake, but her expression told him she had been awake long enough.
"Ya know Loki, if you want to take me out all you have to do is ask. It's not like I' going to say no," Arianna said in a playful tone as she sat up on the couch.
She had woken to Loki and Thor's whispering but decided to remain still when she realized that she was the topic of discussion. She hadn't told anyone, but she had grown an attraction to Loki since he arrived. The Loki she met and had gotten to know was someone completely different than the notes that were in his file. She had decided to judge him off his current actions versus his past. She knew what it was like to be judged for your past as well.
With a nervous laugh Loki rubbed the back of his neck as he looked at the small woman who now sat cross legged on the couch. "Well then, uh how does dinner Friday sound," Loki asked feeling a bit awkward.
Before Arianna answered the question she got up from the couch and walked over to Loki. She looked up at him with a big grin before wrapping her around his waist. She knew she was the only person Loki let willingly hug him and, in the moment, it was fitting.
Friday sounds perfect, pick me up at six," she instructed before disappearing down the hall off to somewhere in the compound.
As he watched her walk away Loki allowed a real smile to grace his features. While he may have lost the parents who raised him, a majority of his people, and his planet he did find a brightness in all that dark. Arianna had brought back some light to his life, and he would be forever thankful for that.
Now he just had to figure out where he was going to take her to dinner.
