I wake up with one hell of a headache. I see light streaming through the spaces in the blinds. I squint and try to make sense of my surroundings. I quickly realize that I'm in our bedroom. Confused as to why I'm not dead or kidnapped, I go to get out of bed. "You okay, sunshine?" Jax groggily says.
"Yeah. What the hell happened? The last thing I remember is that asshole's fist." I grumble.
"Yeah, you really pissed off some really powerful people, Mads. After they came for you, I fought off the other. They were stronger though and I ended up getting an ass beating that rivals Richard's. Cannon called them off and gave dad a week to get the money or he's coming for you." He says.
I look up suddenly terrified to be anywhere near that man. Not that I'd be respectful the next time we met. Just that anyone who wasn't scared of him was stupid.
"Don't worry, Maddox. You know I won't let them." He says.
"It really doesn't seem like you'll have much say. Now, sit up and I'll help you with these wounds." I say, wanting to change the subject. As I get a full view of him, I see the damage my words had caused. Guilt washed over me like a tsunami, as a tear slipped from my eye. I quickly brushed it away, but not before Jax grabbed my hand and looked at me. Silently forgiving me. With that, I set to work. Once he was squared away, we both crashed hard. Exhausted from the night before.
Sorry. Super short chapter but I'm getting more out soon!!
