This time I sat in between Steve and Clint. Tony, Nat, and Bruce were sitting across from us. Thor had his own chair to the side and across from his was Nick Fury. Still throwing daggers with his eye at Tony and his cloak thrown around him dramatically.
I sat crisscrossed and looked at the floor.
"My story is long and some parts are difficult to repeat. So please have patience with me. And to you Nick Fury." I looked at him in the eye. "I have done bad things but I am not bad." He said still. No emotion was shown and no emotion was given.
Suddenly a pressure was felt in me. I looked around. Everyone was staring at me. Staring at me with compassion. And as I looked over at Steve something covered my head. My eyesight was cloaked in black and I transformed in fright.
The blanket fell off of my lap as Clint apologized over and over.
"Oh" I looked over to Nick Fury. He was intrigued and leaning forward to get a better look at me. I transformed back. Giving a nod of appreciation to Clint , I wrapped the blacker around me.
"I was a wild wolf. I had a pack, I had a family and they were everything to me. As many as you know I was injured by a moose and I was dying. Eventually being taken in by humans. I was taken into hydra and I was experimented on. Which led to my creation a Duo. That was the name of the my division. Many of us were animals who gained the ability to become human while a few were the opposite."
"There are more of you?" The voice of Nick Fury floated through the warm air.
"Not anymore. I killed them. They were too dangerous for this world."
"Doesn't that make you the most dangerous?"
"Are you going to listen or ask questions?" I growled at him. He did a curt nod and leaned back in his seat.
"I'll tell you about the others. There was Leo the Lion, Andromeda the Komodo dragon, Kauna the Alligator, and Dakota the fellow wolf. They were a originally animals."
I took a big breath in and continued.
"The humans were Sherry a dove, Nathaniel a raven, Gen a bobcat, Xander a dingo, Mally a horse, and Benjamin was a common dog. The humans Duos were usually separated from us. Hydra preferred them because they were more sociable but we were better killers." A shuffle through the silence.
"The training was brutal. I was the first success. They found that the same connection between fight or flight was what made us change. So they beat us, scared us, anything and everything they could think of until we could change when we wanted too." Steve shifted uncomfortably next to me. He wanted to comfort me. I still don't fully trust you yet Steve.  I snuggled the blanket around me tighter.
"Grace was the sweetest human you will ever meet. I have no idea why she was with them. I never really asked. She was in charge of our habitats but she was a jack of all trades. So she ended up being more of a teacher than a wolf specialist. She taught us arts and normal people things. She gave us mock highschool days and fake sick days." Nat nodded her head solemnly.
"Frankie, the main scientist, shot her. Thought she was making us too soft. He told us she was suppose to make our undercover stories more reliable but she was treating us as people." The bite in my words grew with every word.
"He did very horrible things to us, but animals are animals and they learn what makes them survive. They all became ruthless killers. They would put us against each other to decide rank." I looked over to the clock it was almost midnight.
"Don't worry about time. We don't have a bed time." Nick Fury piped in.
"I wasn't worried. I won most battles. I was the most use to switching since I was the first." I sighed.
"I escaped because I killed them all. Frankie decided to visit me a...at night." I shifted underneath all of their gazes. I hated this, I hate pity.
"Why don't we take a bathroom break?" Clint piped in and jumped up. He went to the kitchen. Slowly they all got up. Even Nick Fury went to the kitchen. Everyone but Steve.
"Pietro told me that your name translates to Oak, is that what you want to be called?" I looked at Steve in those blue eyes, blue eyes with flecks of green.
"I don't know what I should be called. I'm not Grace and I'm not Oak. I'm something new. Just haven't decided what yet. So call me whatever you want." I looked away from his eyes and down to my trembling hands.
"Well," a calloused hand landed onto my trembling ones? "I'll use some of the others nicknames until you decide." Warms spread over my fingers and through my hands and even to my arms.
"Steve?" I looked back up to him. My hair falling away from my face.
"Yes?"
"The next part I'm going to say may be hard to hear. And I'm sorry." His eyebrows furrowed and his face scrunched in confusion. He started to respond but the smell hit my nose. Smooth yet strong, coffee.
"Could you make me a cup Quarter?" I turned away from Steve and got off the couch.
"Wolves drink coffee?"
