So if they gave the twins a chance that means I have a chance of joining them as a hero?
Shut it, they don't want anything to do with you. They just gave you a room because they see you as a pet. There wasn't a bed in that room.
"Knock, knock." A thick accent invited himself in.
"I know who you are. Well, what you are. We were told about the duos. Our greatest asset." Pietro sat down next to me on the balcony. The wind blew his soft cologne in my direction. I wouldn't say it was the smell of roses or fresh flowers but it was sweet.
"How long have you been a human?"
"Fifteen? Twenty years? I don't know. Everything blurred together after I escaped. It hurt, everything did. My mind, my body... my heart." Tears burned my eyes I would not let them escape. Not this time. A rustle, Pietro's arm slowly moved toward.
He's gonna push me off the balcony. I jumped back and growled at him. He blurred away behind me, well he will. I turned around and changed.
"Slow down doll. I wasn't going to hurt you I was trying to comfort you. Sorry." He then blurred away inside.
When he opened the door the smell of alcohol and Chinese food entered my nose. Shrill sounds of laughter echoed in my ears. I walked back in to find everyone in a stupor. Some a drunken stupor and others a joyful one. When they all saw me come in the drunken were confused and the joyful became sober.
"Come join us wolfie." Tony straggled over to me.
"I can't get drunk." He grabbed my hand and kissed it.
"It's okay wolfie, Icicle can't either." Steve smiled at me from the other side of the room.
"It's the serum and Nat has such a strong immune to it she pretty much clear. Then Bruce doesn't drink because of the whole green guy." Steve just sat there smiling at me. Tony had his arm slung around me now. Bruce was in the corner staying as far from Tony as he could and Nat was talking to Wanda and Clint. Pietro was no where to be seen.
"Steve? Where's Pietro?" Tony had slipped off of me and joined Clints drunken self.
"He said something about comfort. Then ran." What?
"Steve?" I was next to him now.
"Why did you let me stay here even just after a couple days?" He turned to face me.
"You're like us. You're different. We also took a liking to you. This is all temporary as we learn more about you and then we will move forward from that. Besides Fury wants to meet you." His hand rested on my shoulder. His blue eyes sparkled with kindness.
Suddenly I was whisked away. Pietro has swooped me away. He took me to my room in the back of the hallways. He grabbed a tie and tied it around my eyes.
"You didn't like when I touched you so how about this." I pulled off the itchy material and gaped in wonder at the sight before me. My room, was changed. A tree had been placed in the back corner. And surrounding it was dirt, fresh dirt. I could smell it. A smile was drawn on my face. Water trickled from a fake stream but the water was river water. The way it fell over the rocks comforted me. My windows were thrown open causing a fresh breeze to blow in.
"You did this? For me?"
It's a trick I know it. No one would do this.
"It's not a trick, Grac..."
"My name is not Grace it's," I growled in my earthy tongue," it means, in human words, Oak."
"It's not a trick, Oak. It's a... gift. I know it's hard to come from Hydra then here. I had Wanda and you have your old life. The grass and the trees the wind and the moon. Remember you will never be alone." His eyes drifted down as he remembered the past. The smell of salt tingled my nose. He was crying.
"Thank you Pietro. I'm sorry for snapping at you. I was trained to think of you as the enemy. And I want you to know that, you are not what they said you were."
"You're just like me."
