Juno's POV:
At first I was panicking.
Who the hell was making us do this? I'd like to go punch them.
Surely my family would be alright. They wouldn't kill them just because they lost a volleyball match.
...Right?
I walked back towards the team just as the screen's text shifted into a timetable of the games that were being held. My team didn't play until tomorrow which was lucky since I figured we all must be exhausted.
"Where do we sleep?" Maeve asks.
"Don't look at me," Phoebe says. "I got no clue."
I sighed. "They wouldn't make us sleep on the court would they? I mean, these games are set to be held over a week." I looked at the timetable and the team followed my eyes.
"Dammit, a whole week?" Emily says. "This'll be fun."
Sunny stands up. "I guess we have to go have a look around for rooms. There would be signs up for sure."
I grab Azmina's hand and pull her up. She looks shaken which really isn't like her.
Then again, we all might die.
We start to walk away from the court and away from our opponents who were huddled around crying. I felt a strike of pity go through me but pushed it away.
If we wanted to win, we had to deal with death. This isn't a game anymore. It's survival.
I hope that if we die then police or someone finds out what happened here, I think. The person making us do this is the one who should pay.
A whistle takes me out of my thoughts. A game was about to start.
"Should we go watch?" Sunny asks.
"We can learn those team's movements, it could be kind of helpful," Azmina pipes up.
"Alright, lets go take a seat beside the court then," I say. "Nobody here appears to have any subs so there's room."
We walk quietly to the court, three other teams watching with us. I'm not familiar with the other teams names. I'm sure I'll find out soon enough. I looked back at the timetable that was displayed across all of the walls. I could look there and see the teams names.
The black and white team was called Seacoast High and the blue and navy team was called Waterfalls Academy. Makes sense I guess.
The scoreboard for this match was displayed on the left wall. It was 3-0 and Seacoast High was winning.
Another whistle blows and I can see down the court that a few more games had started.
"Hey, do you think we can win this?" Sunny nudges me.
"We have to win," I say. "It's life or death."
And if I were to choose any day of the week of what I preferred.
It'd be life.
