Chapter 5: hibi (days)

"Hey, what did you get?" I asked the dirty blonde who was sprawled leisurely on her bed.

"I failed all except potions and white magic, as expected." She answered, not caring that her marks were not the least bit desirable.

I looked back to my report sheet, all 'A+'s , except a 'B-' in bird language. It was the usual for me, I had not improved at all. Sitting down gently on my bed, opposite Aryan, I read the rest of the words on the January examinations report.

'Scholarship for healing magic, in exchange for service as a music and white magic professor for five years.'

The term of my scholarship was very lenient, surprisingly, and I quite enjoyed classes here, so I was not planning on burning it anytime soon. I was lost in thought as I stood up and walked to my notebook that lay on the table, open to my plans when I tap on my shoulder shook me out of my glazed look.

Amanda? Since when did she come in?

Constanze and Jasminka has also entered, smiling at my interaction with the girl ruffling my hair, and inviting herself on my bed.

"Hey, get off! You're not clean!" I burst out, trying to pull Amanda off my bed.

That didn't work, as she held on to the bed frame, and I wasn't strong enough to detatch her from it.

"ooo, what's this?" she picked up my report slip from the bed sheet and read it out loud, adding remarks of her own, saying that I study too hard, 'who studies for broom basics?'.

Helpless, I stood there fuming as she went through my notebooks on the bedside table, commenting on that I was too prepared, and that I should just 'relax and take it easy'.

Do you know how much effort it takes to be successful? Of course you don't, you come from a wealthy family.

She continued to read the book, making a sudden stop halfway through the 'divination' option, striking it off in pen.

Right, she doesn't want to be anything like her parents.

I sighed, "Manda', have you ever asked your mother how she met your father? Divinators in her time were not accepted in a community."

She just shrugged in response, nonchalantly telling me that she never cared.

Amanda turned the page and continued reading in her usual tone of voice, but looking closely, I could see that her eyes were glazed over like glass. She tries to hide it, but she's scared, afraid that her parents would disown her if she refused to take over the business.

She doesn't want to leave them, does she?

I looked the girl over carefully, trying to find a weak spot, but ended up observing her subconscious movement of her hands pulling her shirt down after every sentence instead, finding myself getting slightly turned on.

I was snapped back to reality when I found a crumpled-up report sheet stuffed into Amanda's back pocket.

Smirking, I dashed over, skilfully swiping the paper from her pocket, and taking a look at her marks.

All 'B+' with two 'A-' s.

woah.

"The delinquent cares about her marks! Nice, all 'B's and two 'A's!" I teased, dodging as she tried to snatch back her report card, face turning red.

"Next you know she's going to magic college!"

I continued to spew out nonsense, annoying her to her breaking point.
